Parents should be worrying about how their kids are doing in school and the friends they keep. Worry about your teenagers having unprotected sex and the country having to support them and their offspring. Quit worrying about "kids representing your high school in sports". The majority of these kids will never make it past high school sports, much less the pro's.

They do it for their kids. With the exception of one or two they are all parents. If their kids weren't on the team they would not give a hoot. I have no problem With the organization. I just am not going to give my hard earned cash to these people anymore. It is not a charity. It is a non profit. They are not helping poor kids gets do something. If you want to give money feel free to if you want to give money to really help the community there are much better ways.

Every parent that applied for a scholarship was granted one. Did not help poor people as u ignorantly put it. Just assisted some families that could use a little help in hard times.

Good for them. They all should apply for scholarships and make your dumb ass pay for em. I agree with most people if you want your kid to play pay for it yourself. Times are tuff. Put the money in your own pocket. Let the stock brokers pay for their own kids way.

Sliders are great and do good for a lot of kids. Keep it up. I'm sure the majority is thankful for having the organization.

You sir, seem to have a vendetta against one guy with the organization. Since that is who you keep bringing up. You shouldn't base your feelings on something because you don't like that guy. At least he does things to help. The reason he first got involved may be for his kid but at least he "stepped up to the plate" to run a group that helps any kid. Maybe even yours someday.

I have to say that as a parent that is "well to do" I for one am tired of paying for all the "state assisted" kids getting lunches, sports attire, fees paid by tax paying people and everything else free! It's amazing how people who are on "welfare" have new cars, houses and sit at home and get all their child's stuff free while My husband and I get up everyday and go to work to provide for our family and we are coming out of pocket for our child's expenses. Sure we would like to have that money for other things but we chose to invest that money is our children. I am sure that while I am paying thousands of dollars for my child's college education, the ones complaining about the sliders organization on here won't have to worry about their child's education because I will be paying for theirs too!

I know for fact that 7 scholarships were given to families last year in order for their kids to have an opportunity to be part of the organization, so not all are as "successful" as you state. Just hard working parents that need a little help in order for their kids to be part of something special to them and have fun at the same time. You have a choice to donate or not. No one is forcing you, but its the kids you are taking away from not the "successful parents". Plenty of supporters in this community willing to help out. It's not about advertising, it's about supporting these kids whether you care for the parents or not. Don't hide behind a fake name on Topics, approach the organization so you know more about what is being done for the youth of Rolla. They don't put All-Star teams together using kids from other communities like a lot of these other local teams. It is strictly Rolla kids only. By the way, there is a player fee and the parents work hard during fundraising events.
I believe that they have now opened it up for kids outside of Rolla to tryout as well.

I look forward to when my child is old enough to play ball with the sliders and the youth football league. I will volunteer time coaching as well as pay any fees for him to participate in these activities. Solid organizations to have children involved in.

Well, you my dear are CLUELESS!!! Just because your son plays sports, does not mean they are not up to wrong doing!!! Two sports players just this year were busted for drugs and were selling them too. However, it does appear that if you are a sports player, things like this get swept under the rug. YAY Rolla High School you should be proud of yourselves!! Both boys continue to play sports and had no consequences to suffer. It matters who your parents are and what they do. If you are "somebody" it will just disappear!!! This is wrong and it MUST change!!! So," wrestling fan" better investigate what you are claiming, because you are very much "CLUELESS!!!!!

"Clueless" pretty much sums it up! I am a father of 4. Pre-teen and teen. I played sports all year every year while in school and on into college. Sports are 1, a very good way to learn rules, structure, respect, and how to over come adversity. 2, sports also help with academics ie: "no grades, no play". 3, sports allow children to become more social which in turn, more responsible. The fact that there are athletes that make the wrong decisions in life is lack of parenting 101. Maybe it's the lack of involvement in the child's life. Maybe the unimportance of self worth. Who knows. But the fact that you blame sports or economic standards is complete lack of respect in your own life. Maybe you should have played competitive sports, and learned how to loose, respect, and aim higher to be be a better person in life. Lastly, because a parent is involved in their children's life and they are economically sound, doesn't mean a child won't or can't make a bad decision. Typically the bad decision is made from outside influence from children who ARENT involved in outside activities.

Sports are a great structure builder for kids! If you can't afford sliders there are other local organizations that are free. If your kid didn't make the team maybe you should get off your butt and work with them! We play to win! Sliders organization brings out the child's talent and builds from that! These teams that don't keep score or let anyone play without real talent aren't teaching the kids anything except how to have everything handed to them. Not everyone can win everytime! They need to learn how to lose too! Don't come on a site complaining because you don't like how the organization works or because you don't work with your kid before tryouts!

This is so not true. This is Not a fair organization. It's suppose to go by scores of tryouts as to whether you make the team or not. Well guess what, that's a big joke and so far from the truth. This is known from the very president, Gary himself!!

Sliders mom is 100% correct "it's awesome". Life is not fair and that's what is taught to these children everyday. If it is okay to lose in your family and except defeat, then I'm sorry for those affected by this. I want all my children to do their best at everything and if they lose or get defeated, I would ask them to dig deep and try harder next time. In that respect, they will grow into a self confident, self sufficient, self motivated people in our pathetic society. And there is one thing I KNOW won't happen, they won't rely on our dis functional government to be successful. I also know for a fact sliders develop winners.
