Went to the shooting range on 63S yesterday, and installed 2 permanent targets. 50 and 100 yards. Cleaned it up a little bit, but it needs more. Anyone interested give me a shout

It's on 63S from Rolla about 7 miles. It needs cleaned up bad. It's actually on Mark Twain forest land. I installed some permanent targets, but went there recently and someone totally destroyed my targets. And they were 1/2 inch steel. The place has needles and rubbers laying every where. I will be going there on Dec. 31st to clean and rake.

Is this a public range? Are you running it? Charge to get in? What's the farthest range you could set a target up?

It's an Edgar Springs. Right past Yancey Mills on a road on the left. Send its off another road down the road. Make sure you have 4 wheel drive because it's really rough. I went out there few months ago and it was pretty clean.

County rd 6020.... But take the 2nd entrance to it from rolla. It's around the curve and up the hill on the left. Then take the 2nd right. It's numbered as USFS 1532 on a map. Follow it way down til u get to a clearing. U can shoot there or follow farther down to the right and there's another spot. Please clean up after ur selves!

I know this is old but the shooting range has again been re-opened to the public. Yes, the place is free. You just show up. Please do not leave all the crap behind to make them want to close it. I understand the road was repaired some as part of the re-opening. There are always shot-up TV's and stuff there when I have gone. They sometimes clean it up but it is always trashed. Wish they would install cameras.... I have never seen drug stuff, just lots of shot up crap.... Good luck trying to put up nice targets or a bench to leave behind... I repaired the old a couple of times. One time I used metal fence posts as braces. Someone took them, likely for scrap metal. I used wood the next time and then it was completely trashed. I rebuilt one from scratch and someone shredded it with shotguns and rifles.

As for the directions.... Yes, this place can be a little hard to find the first time. From Rolla, head south on Hwy 63. You will cross the Little Piney at Yancy Mills. There are two ways to get here from there. You can turn left on the second turn to the left right as 63 starts up the big hill. This is County Road 6020, which is old Hwy 63. The easiest way the first time is to keep going and turn left on CR 6020 where it intersects Hwy 63 again at the top of that hill along a long flat stretch. You will come to a driveway on your right and then a heavier traveled looking gravel road almost immediately. This is all within 1/4 mile or so of 63. The road goes down a big hill almost immediately which can get quite rough after rains. I suggest a 4WD if possible.
