Disclaimer: This is in no way a bash. The people that attend this church are great, fun personalities. This is a writing of "my experience " with CLC. All churches have faults. I'm not saying "don't go here". Just want to be heard out a little bit here.

So I had started to go to this church about 2 or 3 years ago. My first impression was "Cool!". It was nice to see so many other people that enjoyed the worship and the sermon, and a pastor that wasn't afraid to preach controversial things because its what he believes. I joined and immediately wanted to be a bigger part of the church. I remember them boasting being a friendly and excepting. This was not my experience(entirely). Every Sunday morning when i'd come in. I'd sit alone on an entrance wall. Now, I know communication is a 2-way street and I'm not exactly a communicator, but I tried multiple times to start conversations with people. When I got there in the mornings I felt ignored as a Christian. From then on everything felt exclusive. I felt like I was trying to be a member of a church that was only excepting certain people. I'm not angry, but for that time I felt completely alone. How can a church claim friendly people when they still leave even one person alone just sitting on a wall. I made my attempts at conversation and making friends here. It didn't work.
Opinions?

Unfortunately, that does happen and in my experience, in larger churches. Remember that a church is a hospital for sinners and not a museum for saints. Forgive, and set a good example. If its happening to you, then it could be happening to others. Look around and do for them what you would like done for you.

Unfortunately, I had a similiar experience here. They want you to go here, BUT if you don't fit the criteria (style, income, etc) then they dont want you to be too involved as it may make them look bad. You have to "audition" to sing a special in the church and if you dont sound like they want you aren't allowed to sing. They also condone drinking in bars (by leaders in the church/family of the pastor), and many other things I wont even begin to go in to here. They have awesome music and a great way of making sermons not so boring, but there are so many things they do that I WONT be a part of. The best thing I can suggest is to move on and find a church that has what you want and believes how you believe. We can only pray that they improve in the areas that are lacking and hope that future guests get better treatment. I also agree with "mouse." about it being a hospital for sinners. The problem here is that there is a better than thou attitude amongst the leaders who should be making the effort to make EVERYONE feel welcome. Its one thing to say you welcome everyone, but a different thing to show that. I would say its time to find a church that makes you happy. No church is perfect, and every church has its issues, but there is a good fit for you somewhere. Good luck!

Wow, audition to sing a special??? Not in my church. Maybe some people thrive in that environment but I, myself, would not. I agree with the above post, there are lots of other churches out there. Find one until you feel comfortable.

Churches today are just missing the picture. JESUS. If we just took our eyes and our focus off the world and lights and sound and new age attractions we would actually go somewhere. I have heard good things and bad things about CLC but its not my place to judge. I wouldnt go there because it seems like a place for new believers, but i havnt seen much dicipleship come out of here. We can't really bash this church. There ways of doing things are kind of different from most churches. There goal and mission is to reach out to the lost and alure people from jacked up homes and lives. This action is appropriate but only to an extent. A church has to preach the Cross and Jesus. We can only soften the teachings and preaching for so long. We must pray for revival to take place but the only way its going to is if people are straight up and preach against peoples sins. leonard ravenhill once said "there will come a day when a man filled with the HOly Ghost will be marked "un-patriotic" for speaking against his nations sins" This is what we are called to be! People who are not ashamed and people who are fed up with Complacency and luke-warmness!! We are called to such a greater level! I will be having a week of prayer and Fasting(optional) For 7 days. It is called the Awakening. We will be praying and having worship and teachings of the Word through out the week for revival and awakening to take place here. If you are interested in being a part of it or even attending, just let me know or respond to this post. Thanks!

I couldn't agree with you more Ty. I think that you said it perfectly when you said, "we can only soften the teachings and the preachings for so long." Its great to get new believers in, but then we have to teach them about not doing things of the world. People think they go to church and everything is fine. You have to make an effort to change your ways and set yourself apart from the rest of the world. And who is supposed to teach you this as a new believer? Your church! I was saddened to see one of their attendees opened a new bar in town and I have seen several pictures on fb of other attendees "having a good time" there. How can you witness to people and be an example in a bar? You just can't. THat is where the christian gets the "hypocrite" title. They see a christian in a bar (who may or may not be drinking) and then they say oh look at that hypocrite. Forget church, they are all hypocrites. What is everyones opinion on this? If you see a christian in a bar or hear a christian cussing what do you HONESTLY think?

Drinking is not illegal. What does it have to do with this church? I'm confused.

I have to agree. If you're not making your attendees into disciples, then you're not very effective at being a Christian church. Although you can't control what your church members do, I would hope that you make your premises a place filled with the Holy Spirit that people who attend can't help but be affected by.

I know "young" Christians still go about their worldly business. I know I did for years. It took a while for the Holy Spirit to really clean house. I know the Holy Spirit has a lot more work to do too. The important thing is to patiently support the Holy Spirit's work in their lives. Pray they are led to clean up their language and stop the alcohol influence. Teach them in the right way to go and forgive them where they fail. They may not be led yet to avoid the bar culture, or to clean up their language. If they do it because of peer pressure, they're only doing it for the wrong reasons. If you give God time to work in their lives, then He will lead them to do it for the right reasons, out of love and reverence for Him. If you claim them to be nothing but hypocrites, you may push them away from God.

In my opinion, all Christians are hypocrites. We're all a bunch of sinners saved by grace and church is nothing but a hospital for sinners. No saints.

Well the bible specifically says not to get drunk. But as mmm hmm said..if you are not a christian and you see a christian sitting in a bar drinking a beer(even if is just one), then you will MOST likely think that they are a hypocrite. Then that may cause you to stumble. You are correct...drinking is not illegal. Neither is cussing, or flipping people off, or looking at porn. BUT as a christian, you "HAVE TO SET YOURSELF APART FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD" (thanks again mmmm hmmm for that one). If I say I am a christian, I will live like a christian. I will not cuss, I will not go to bars, I will not flip people off, I will not watch porn because none of this is good. It all exudes negativity. I will live my life the best I can. I will stumble sometimes, but I will ask for forgiveness, and I will try my hardest not to stumble again. Its not about what is against the law, its about doing the right thing and always improving yourself to be a better christian and setting an example to non-believers.

I know how you feel I have had this happen to me. I recommend trying First Baptist. It is across from the high school. I'll pray for you to find a church family.

I use to go there but everyone was snobby and it was more about how much money we could pump in for the church and the pastors to take trips. I wanted to be close to the Lord not send people on vacation.
