Jan 11th at about 9 pm the Sheriff Dept and EMS personnel responed to a shooting near the intersection of HWY F and CR4110. Actually to reports a father and son were messing around in their truck with a high powered rifle which went off Killing the son. The Father then dumped the body in the ditch and went home. His wife returned to the scene and was there when law enforcement arrived. If we had a real newspaper in this county you could read about it there but since this is Rolla you can only go by scanner reports.

You do realize this incident occurred just last night, right? The newspaper will not report it until they receive a press release. The press release would not be released until the Sheriffs Department had facts to report. Additionally, The paper is already printing by 9 pm. I'm not saying I'm a huge fan of the RDN, but come on. What do you expect?

The RDN has a web site that is for up to the minute news accordig to them. Look at any real newspaper and they are constantly updating their websites. How would you feel if someone said well your death just happened last nite. What a silly statement. Rolla needs to wake up we are in the age of instant technology, not wait til next week when we get around to it. That same type of thinking is what cost Rolla 3000 Briggs & Stratton Jobs.

So what you are suggesting is the RDN report on a topic as sensitive as this without having the facts? If the PCSD hasn't released the information, what is there to report? There are a lot of factors involved here, and you are worried the RDN didn't get it released quick enough. I don't understand.

Naturally you wouldn't understand. A newspaper should not sit around and wait for a press report for their news. That's the biggest problems with the news media today is that instead of reporters they are repeaters, saying whatever a press release gives them and doing no research on their own. The sheriff's press release will contain nothing. A reporter would go out and look at what happened interview people and check facts. If all we do is wait for press releases we are doomed. RDN needs to change its name to Rolla Daily Repeater.

I will leave well enough alone. It is what it is. What you don't understand is that I know a lot more than you give me credit for. I also know this is not St Louis or KC. This is a small close knit community. A young man lost his life last night. Publishing the story isnt always the most important thing. I know if i were a friend or family member of the deceased, the last person i would want to talk to is a reporter. So, naturally i do understand. I understand that this story can wait for a day.

Does the RDN have enough staff, time, and money, to go out there and do investigative reporting? I wouldn't think so, but maybe I'm wrong.

You are correct and I feel sorry for the family whatever happened. But we as a society must demand better from our media or we will end up like nazi germany and only be told what they want us to hear. I not saying that is the case here but more in general terms. Having worked for a paper for years I guess I expect too much. Sorry.

I respect your opinion. I can respect a debate as long as it remains respectful. Have a good day.

Small town newspapers are quickly becoming a thing of the past.

We are lucky to still have RDN.

A newspaper does have to wait until it's printing press is rolling, genius.

Why don't you start your own newspaper, idiot? You obviously think there is a void.

I'm surprised you're smart enough to be on topics. Pay attention we were talking about the RDN's internet site. You're obviously one of Rolla's brightest and best.

It's just like people from Rolla to get off subject so quickly what about the guy that was killed? No one seems to care about that. You're all just a bunch of nut cases!!!!!!!!!! So glad I moved away from that town of losers.

This is the point I have been trying to make. The death of this young man is more important than the story coming out late.

Prayer's for the grandparents who loved this young man so very much. God bless them and keep them near his loving grace.

We should all pray for the young man and his family may they find peace in the arms of the lord.

Oh, I like you! Someone that respects the other poster's opinion is much needed on this forum. Agree to disagree is what it's all about. I wish you could go to every post and teach some of these good people that they are wrong when they are bashing and scandalizing others on here. I have been quilty of that a little myself after they started bashing me for my opinions. I agree with you 100%. Thank you so much for your comment.

Thank you Amanda. If there was more respect in this world, we wouldn't have anything to talk about on here, which would probably be a good thing.

Reposting Dave Weinbaum's childish rants is way easier than doing real journalism.

I'll have to take your word for it, because it's been years since I've read that paper.
