That race track is known all around this country as being one of the fastest 1/2 miles in the US , it would draw cars from all over and would generate alot of revenue for Rolla business, the benefits of opening this track back up go on and on ! The noise levels was an excuse to shut down the track. The track was built before but a few houses in the area. The court ruling was more of a way preventing the track owner from getting too much wealth and power. The lack of foresight of the county and city prevented "The Fastest 1/2 Mile in the Mid-West " becoming the cash cow this area needs.

Consider, track maintenance, staffing, electricity, sewer, and the biggie, insurance. With this and a number of other overhead costs no one will be able to afford the entrance fees.

Sorry.. you r wrong on all accounts... This trace ( dirt ) will net a $100.000.00 per year easy,, Lucas track nets about $160,000.00 without any volunteers.....Big cash cow for the community,

The Rolla Speedway is not ever going to re-open in that location. After the many years of sitting idle the internal structuring and support is fading, the liability insurance and sanctioning is unattainable and the injunction is still in place. Ain't gonna happen brother!

But with this said I have been involved with efforts to reopen the track since 1980 and every-time it has failed. The first efforts from what I remember were about the possibilities of running mufflers to curb the sound but it seems there is a whole lot more involved in this than just sound because of the way the final judgment was written. Its really a shame because that track was very cool in the day and was a major draw from other Missouri towns & cities....

With the amount of money it would take to upgrade the track to be usable, why not just rebuild it from the ground up? With several investors, I think it could work. Perhaps the lions club or Warren Dean taking part ownership? It would create several new jobs, draw people in from all over.

If the city council is made up of dried up old Terds, why don't we send them all packing come election time? This town has GOT to get some jobs going or the people will leave!

Has nothing to do with the Town Council. When the injunction was placed the Fair Ground was located in the county, as I believe it still is. That's whyit's the Phelps County Fair an not the Rolla City Fair.

You could expect approx 106 car in five classes.. the second year...( ran properly it will exceed Lucas speedway.)Lebanon is a good asphault track ...BUT... they struggle to have 30 cars total,,,,, It,s all about dirt and management......Dirt we can get,,,,BUT just look at the fair,,,poor management !!!!! I will manage the track for free for five years,,, no strings attached..... Dirt drivers will drive a extra 100 miles just at a chance of winnin a extra $100.00 bucks Lebanon i44 speedway has more than 30 cars total, and its only the 2nd year its been back to asphalt , the reason they dont have more car count is the pay out, if they payed what they should they would have alot more cars. I am not going to get into the whole dirt or aphalt thing , because in the end ill still hate dirt and you will still hav your opinion about asphalt , and i could go on and on about good reasons that both would work .

They didn't come to Rolla bc the people threw a fit about the "historical" trees at that site!!!! Who wants to put up with people in a town like that??? No one!!! It was in all the papers back then so you might want to know your facts before you rudely call someone stupid!!!

There was good commercial property all over town but Crapper Barrel didn't want to buy any. They wanted to bribe the mayor to GIVE them the park property.

This has been looked into by an attorney and by non-legal council. If you too would do your research, you too would know that it states in law books the fairgrounds is under a perpetual closure of the race track. That means the track can NEVER be re-opened under any circumstances. This is unfortunate. However, this judgement was given in favor of the surrounding homeowners over 40 years ago. It was retried about 25 years ago and the fairgrounds was still denied. Even if the perpetual closure was lifted it would take thousands upon thousands of dollars for repairs to make it to racing standards.

This battle has been fought before, and had several official discussions with many solutions to all foreseen problems with no luck. Just a side note the track was there first then people built by it. If you build by a race track deal with it, just like building a house next to a dump, you knew it was there if you did not like it, why did you build there. However, if someone wants to get the ball rolling on the subject there are a few people that I know personal that would be of great help in this. They live in rolla and have owned businesses in the area for a long time. Rolla auto salvage owner joe Hauck has been a big part of getting the track back and going and former owner of the quarry before melrose bought it Chester McDowell would be great help in getting the track back and running.

It could bring in a million each year in business ,,, it would be smary to have a race track sales tax for about ten years,,, problems solved !!!

Rolla Citizen. I would not have posted what I did if I hadn't already done the research and had a financial baker that is aware of the cost. Everyone said I couldn't get South West Quarry bought because Capital Quarry's and Farmer Brothers lawyers already failed. But I did it didn't I? No need to doubt my abilitys.
