Emily you are pretty ignorant huh? I bet you don't even know the facts about the study done by the United States government that says marijuana kills brain cells. You should look it up before you run your mouth about something you obviously know nothing about.

LONG-TERM EFFECTS
In addition to the possible effects on your brain, smoking marijuana may also be hazardous to your developing lungs. Marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke.41

You may have heard people argue that marijuana is a "gateway drug" to harder drug use. Some say this is a myth, others insist it is a fact. The truth is that there is a link. Research shows that the earlier you start using marijuana, the more likely you are to become dependent on it or other types of drugs later in life.42

. The most psychoactive cannabinoids chemical in marijuana that has the biggest impact on the brain is tetrahydrocannibol, or THC. THC is the main active ingredient in marijuana because it affects the brain by binding to and activating specific receptors, known as cannabinoid receptors. "These receptors control memory, thought, concentration, time and depth, and coordinated movement. THC also affects the production, release or re-uptake (a regulating mechanism) of various neurotransmitters."(2) Neurotransmitters are chemical messenger molecules that carry signals between neurons. Some of these affects are personality disturbances, depression and chronic anxiety. Psychiatrists who treat schizophrenic patient advice them to not use this drug because marijuana can trigger severe mental disturbances and cause a relapse.

I will agree that it has been proven that a marijuana cigarette has more carcinogens(cancer causing agents) in it then a tobacco cigarette.
On the other hand It's not a gateway drug big man. The reason some people who attempt marijuana end up doing hard drugs is not because marijuana makes you want to try those harder drugs. It is simply because since marijuana is illegal, it is a part of this black market of drugs in which drugs like meth or heroin can be found. As any salesman, a Drug dealer who handles these drugs will simply offer his/her clients harder drugs to make more money off them.

But, there has NEVER been a case of marijuana causing any form of cancer(or death), while thousands of people are diagnosed with cancer(and die) daily caused by some form of tobacco use.

Emily, next time don't copy and paste your argument from some random article you read. At least try to form some sentences of your own.
It's common knowledge that THC is the part of marijuana that affects the brain. All the things you described afterwards about the receptors and how it affects the brain is "how" the person gets high. It does just that, affect the brain. It doesn't harm it or destroy brain cells. Some recent research has actually found that marijuana can stimulate brain cell growth
In states were Marijuana is legal, people can get Green(Medicinal Marijuana) cards for symptoms like depression and anxiety.
Some psychiatrists do believe that marijuana can induce schizophrenia in those who are already genetically inclined for it. But there is no conclusive evidence for this. But it clearly does not cause schizophrenia in its users.

You're totally right. In the test done by the government, the researchers pumped the monkeys full of smoke with a gas mask. The use of the gas mask cut off any circulation of oxygen so they eventually suffocated. The researchers determined that marijuana causes brain cell damage by counting the amount of dead brain cells in the dead(suffocated) monkey's and comparing the difference to the amount of brain cells in the monkey's who were not exposed to the marijuana smoke via gas mask.

So.. Get your facts straight!
