Sometimes the back/hip/joint problems come before the weight gain. Be careful in judging books by their cover.

Thank you!! Some people are so concerned about the outside that they don't think about the inside.:-(

I can't believe some of the posts I am reading on this thread. Some of you people are so cruel. And very ignorant to think that health problems cannot cause obesity.
In my case, I was in high school when I developed severe depression and social anxiety disorder. For a long time, I barely had the energy or guts to walk into school each day. I sat at home and wallowed alot, I could not help it, it was out of my control. It was so bad that I did not even care if I lived or died. Therefore, I gained some weight. Then I went to get help. They put me on medications to help with my depression. The medications I were on caused me to gain more weight. I worked out, I ate healthy, I pushed myself and pushed myself. Nothing worked. I had to get off my medications due to personal/financial issues. I still struggle with depression today and its been years. There have been alot of extenuating circumstances that keep getting in my way to living a "healthy" lifestyle. I cannot hold a steady job due to depression and social anxiety disorder, I have tried everything to get help. I am not giving up though. But there are days I cant even leave the house. Nobody knows my situation, nobody knows other peoples situation, so unless you know EVERYTHING,(which I wonder if ANY of you are really as education as you make yourselves seem), then I suggest that you BACK OFF. I hope that every one of you "skinny" people gain weight and experience the struggles that bigger people do. And before you try to bash me for my post, say what you want, it just makes you a cruel and ignorant, poor excuse for a human being. have a nice day.

I understand that some fat people are in that condition because of health issues. I know that the majority of fat people are that way by choice. And to all of the people who are making up excuses- its very insulting to the fat people with legitimate medical excuses!

It's actually very easy to lose weight. I lost about 50 pounds just by changing my diet. All I did was stop eating out and stop drinking soda!

I can't cook very well so I just bought a lot of fruit. I also bought some frozen vegetables and steamed them in a bowl in the microwave for a side-dish at lunch and dinner. I ate oatmeal for breakfast every day. For lunch and dinner and bought pre-cooked Tyson chicken and microwaved it to eat in a sandwich.

That's it! That's all I did and I lost a ton of weight. I am no longer overweight, at least according to the "BMI" body-mass index.

It was really an accident, since I stopped eating out because I wanted to save money. I didn't believe that I would lose any weight from it because I thought it must be much more difficult.

Just drink water instead of soda, and eat vegetables with every meal. It's easier than you think!

Instead of driving to Walmart and loading up a shopping cart with soda, chips, ice cream, cookies, frozen pizza, candy, beer, cheesecake, and other yummy goodies, buy fresh fruit and vegetable, a whole chicken, and potoes, leaving the butter behind. ever heard of hypothyroidism? Polycystic ovarian syndrome? Genetics? Perhaps there are a lot of reasons for a person not to fit your ideal. It is cheaper to buy an entire fast food meal than to buy individual ingredients to make a comparable meal. It works out to be cheaper, if you have proper storage capabilities, but less time efficient in most hectic schedules. Get off your high horse and stop pretending you know about things that are clearly beyond your grasp

With all the things that are wrong with this world, why do the majority of people choose to complain about others weight? I am a fat girl,I'm not uneducated and I'm not lazy...I am a person with feelings and have just as much right to be fat as anyone else has to be thin.
I am not ashamed of who I am or the way that I look,I don't have diabase or high blood pressure,I don't keep cookies in my purse or think about food constantly and so on and so on with the fat stereotypes.....so what the problem be?I am not hurting myself or you,so why the hate?
The only logical conclusion I can come to is that the miserable and hateful people in this world need something to complain about and we are the BIGEST targets....so very sad.

Some people just want something to complain about, or want to hurt someone's feelings. However, with that said. You said you aren't hurting yourself. Do you have family? Kids, a husband, siblings, etc.? Anyone who care's about losing you? If so, you're not only hurting yourself, you're hurting them. You say you aren't uneducated, but obviously that's not the case, given you think being overweight isn't hurting anything. Being overweight causes clogged arteries, heart problems, and can cause diabetes and things of that nature later in in life. Those things can KILL you. So yes, it can hurt you, terminally. And even if you don't care about yourself and your health, fine, but care about your family, and don't let them see you killing yourself. I'm not saying you should change for me, for the assholes of the internet, for tv and Hollywood, or for anyone or anything else, but instead change for them, so you can all enjoy a long, healthy life together. You do need to change, make no mistake, but make the change for the right reason. There's nothing wrong with the look of big, everyone is beautiful in their own way, but if you're big, you're going to have a lot more health problems. That is the problem with being big, health, not appearance. However if you care that little about yourself that you'd let your health slide that downhill, then you're ugly not on the outside, but in. I know this will piss you off, which is not my intention, but it needed to be said. I hope no matter how mad this makes you, you take this into serious consideration.

I am a very skinny woman. The opposite of fat. I can eat and never gain a pound, do not do drugs, live an active lifestyle, and eat healthily (with a very sweet spot for snickers bars and cupcakes). Strangers go up to me and comment on my size, strangers put their hands around my wrists and say how easy it would be to break them (this has happened twice). I've often wondered, though I am aware that obesity is talked about indirectly, no one is going to go up to you (if you're overweight) and ask how much you eat or tell you you should eat less. I have heard this all my life. And while I'm at it, let's talk about the reverse. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of fat girls that love talking crap on us skinny ones. I do think that genetics have a part to play in some cases, and I do think that a lot of it is unhealthy choices. But you shouldn't come on here and act like no one should judge you because I'm sure you judge someone/thing for whatever reason. And lastly, humans judge...it's what we do. It's how we form opinions on our environments. It may not always be correct, but schemas are normal and healthy, and cannot be avoided.

When I see a fat person I just shake my head. You'd think in todays day in age a person would have some self respect and treat there body well. Giving it healthy food, put in some weight training, or cardio. I mean wow, when you let yourself go like that it just shows you have no discipline. Its digusting and you can't blame it on anyone but yourself. So my advice.. Put in work when it comes to your body and you won't get made fun of. Its so simple... Burn more calories then what you take in. Quit eating sugar,(except natural occuring sugars like fruit), simple carbs, and cut your calories by 500 or even 1000 (depending on weight). The real work comes from being active and working out. Change your lifestyle, you'll feel better about yourself and you won't have to b*tch about it on the internet.

Butter is actually not as bad for you weight wise. Not all fat is bad, your body needs fat to funtion properly. Margirane is worse than butter because its pocessed chemically.

Are you gonna meet me at the cash register to pay my grocery bill? If not I will be buying anything I darn well please! FYI I tried eating a bunch of that healthy sh*t you are talking about and I almost died! I was sick for 4 days and missed work, yeah if I eat that crap I would need u to pay my grocery bill! Many of the fruits and veggies are from other countries and they don't have the same sanitary standards the states has. Yeah I wash the sh*t out of any of that stuff I buy but let me tell u the time I almost croaked from eating it, washing it didn't help!
