Probably just got too cold and some of old Warren Deans 70 y.o. extension cords shorted out. I doubt he even insures his places.

That was it.

No big flames. Just smoke for a long time. But it took lots of effort to get to it. I would guess that basement is probably packed with junk making it hard to get around in there.

Warren Dean is tighter than the bark on the tree. Do you think he makes some insurance company rich and pays premiums for all the old rundown properties he has? I doubt if any respectable insurance company would accept the risk. They would make him clean it up and get the wiring up to code before they would write him a policy. That building would probably cost $50k per year to insure for fire.

I doubt that Autozone would have a motive. Their inventory was well managed and they didn't have a lot of dead stock so there was no reason to try to pull a fast one.

Insurance fraud for a company like Autozone is just not worth it. Dealing with insurance companies and adjusters is a royal pain in the backside. Nobody comes out a winner.

The paper said the fire was of suspicious origin but that just means they didn't find a likely cause. We know that basement is full of old junk, which creates a hazard in itself. I pity the people on Williams road who have had to look out their picture windows at WD's mess for 50 years.

He is a slum lord but not the worst of the bunch. I sure wouldn't bad mouth him in town or on here. I blame the city for letting him make our town look bad.

Curly Kobalt and his wife did die. Thank you very much.

There was no legitimate reason to make those people leave their homes. It isn't necessary to pick on those people in order to clean up Warren Dean's mess.

And now that the Centre is not meeting its projections and there are vacant strip malls all over Missouri it is pretty obvious that the big plan to take Williams road into a big shopping development would have gone bust by now.

that is pretty harsh
They were being forced out by eminent domain and not being enough for their homes so that they could relocate in a comparable neighborhood.

According to the Rolla Daily News, Warren Dean did not have insurance, and Auto Zone had some. There was $100,000 damage to the building, and $900,000 in lost Auto Zone inventory. Apparently Warren Dean had all kinds of stuff in the basement, too. They are suspicious, and are asking anyone with information to call the arson hotline, or something like that.
