I've heard that there's a Gypsy King buried in the Rolla City Cemetery. Does anyone know the story behind that?

My mom used to work for a flower shop in Rolla back when I was in grade school. I remember when the gypsies came through. I thought I remember it being the queen that died as they were passing through Rolla so they burried her there, now every time one of their "royalty" die they have to come to rolla and bury her. I don't know how true that last part is, but if I remember correctly, the grave is close to Hwy 72 right when you pull in the cemetery.

It's down front close to Hwy 72 and more to the left. The name on the tombstone is "Broadway" When I was growing up in Rolla the Gypsies came every year and there used to be an old black purse on the Gypsy Queens' grave and it was supposed to be cursed. The purse has been gone for a long time. The King of the Gypsies died in the late 70's and his funeral was amazing. They had him propped up in the casket with a plate of food in front of him. And one of the flower arrangements was a Semi with a trailer-all made out of flowers.

So does anyone know if there are now or were ever any gypsy communities that stayed in Missouri? I'm thinking specifically of the areas of Shannon and Reynolds County.

I remember when the queen died they had a floral arrangement made like a woman lying on a couch. Apparently on her later years that is what she did. They use to come and really decorate the graves. I mean REALLY decorate them. I notice now it is really scaled back and most are the same.

My dad who lived in Lake Springs, Mo. remembers his relatives saying that there was a banner over her coffin which said, "I danced with Rudolph Valentino."
