I'm always looking at Straight Talk phones, so this is for those that have Straight Talk phones and wonder about upcoming new phone model. Here's a commercial for an Android phone coming to Straight Talk, and soon to WalMart. Here's the commercial link:

They do have good reception. They operate under either Verizon signal, and ATT/TMobile. Phones models that end in "C" use Verizon signal strength, models that end in "G" use sim cards and use ATT/TMobile towers. I have a R355c phone(looks like a Blackberry), and NEVER lose signal.

Verizon signal is basically nonexistent on 70 from just south of Persia store almost all the way out to I-81.

I don't think ATT is much better. Really wish these companies would put in some repeaters. Being 2011 , there's no reason for the poor signal in areas.

I get a strong AT&T signal all the way from Cherokee HS to I-81 on my Tracfone which is the same company as Straight Talk is. I would go with Straight Talk but as little as I use my phone now it would be more expensive to do so. Right now with my double minute Tracfone I only spend aroud $30-35 every 2 months buying minutes for it.

The Samsung Galaxy Precedent Android phone will work on Sprint's network. Major bummer =[ It was announced today on Straight Talk's official Facebook page and Website. I was hoping it would run on Verizon, but it's going to be ran on Sprint towers.

I too wish they would continue to release new phone that operate on the verizon towers but don't forsee this anytime soon! I can't get service on the GSM or Sprint towers where I live. I hate that the older model phones are all you can get! I have the R451C and it works good but would love to have a android phone. I read somewhere that they are working on getting a version of the Rumor touch for Verizon service but don't know how true it is! It still son't have all the features I would like though! I guess thats just part of life though.:( I too was excited to see the android was a CDMA phone until I found out it operated on the same towers as BOOST and VIRGIN MOBILE. I left VIRGIN MOBILE because of poor service!

I guess you already figured out that the new android runs on sprint, did you know it only runs off actual sprint owned towers? That means no roaming off of Verizon's towers! Good if you live within sprints range. Bad if you want to travel. That is why the Rogersville, Morristown and Tazwell stores don't carry them.

There are now 2 Android Straight Talk phones. Both using Sprint towers however. It's called the LG Optimus Q and retails for $179.99. Screen size is the same as the other Straight Talk Android based cellular phone. The camera is a bit better however at 3mp. Really the only difference I can see is of course the obvious. Maker of the phone, the upgraded camera, and the layout/design of the phone. The LG Optimus Q has a slide out qwerty keyboard. So for all you texting freaks? This phone would be an awesome choice! I use the Samsung R355C blackberry style phone. Does the job for now. Waiting for a/an Verizon Android based smart phone. If and when that happens, will upgrade to that phone. Otherwise will stick with my blackberry wannabe phone. My soon to be ex-wife has the Samsung Galaxy Precedent based Android phone. Only had it a few days. But seems to be a pretty cool phone. There have been a few issues or hangups!

Correction. Morristown does carry the Samsung Galaxy Precedent Android based cell phone. My ex bought one there just a few days ago. Not sure if they will restock them however. It's been a rather quick seller though. Straight Talk is making a killing. Sucks they put restrictive older modem/internet capabilities in it instead of faster speeds.

For this area Virgin Mobile is the best. They have the LG Optimus V. Gets GREAT internet service.. Has tons of aps etc. for only $30 a month.
