What is your source for this?
That would be HUGE news and there's nothing in the media that I can find anywhere.
Food City is quite profitable and they're being quite aggressive in expanding right now, so I don't see the motivation for them to sell.

KVAT, Inc., aka Food City is a money-making, steam-rolling machine. Do not ever think that they are a mom and pop grocery store chain- these are shrewd, intelligent people; the Smiths and their associates. I hate Food City and as an employee was mistreated in every way, but if it was a good business decision to sell then I bet they did.$$$$$$$$$

Hope the new administration sees fit to drug test their management on a somewhat regular basis; a few surprise blood 'alcohol tests' would prove interesting; Old red nose out at Eastgate would be a goner- should've left him up the road!

If anyone finds out any details, please post- especially who the new owner is and if anyone in the office at FC gets hold of the new owner's customer service center: please post!

I think you may have it backwards folks. If anyone buys anyone it will be Food City doing the buying. They have bought Super Dollar, Piggly Wiggly, Bi-Lo, Winn Dixie and White Stores. Mr Smith is in no way shape form or fashion selling his company.

Food City officials say rumors of sale are false
By Carly Harrington (Contact)
Thursday, July 2, 2009
Food City officials are saying online reports speculating that the Abingdon, Va.-based chain of grocery stores is being sold to Publix Super Markets Inc. are false.
"There's absolutely no truth to it. Our company is not for sale and probably won't be, at least in my lifetime," said Steve Smith, president and CEO of Food City's parent company, K-VA-T Food Stores Inc.
Reports of a sale began surfacing online in mid-June. There was speculation that an announcement could come in August when a Food City-sponsored NASCAR race will be held at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
K-VA-T's policy is to not comment on rumors but Smith said he had received many phone calls about the company's potential sale, a story that has been spreading on the Internet.
He said Food City's strategy has been to acquire stores, not sell them.
"We're happy with where we are," Smith said. "We've invested a lot of money into our stores and we're awfully proud of our people."
Publix spokeswoman Brenda Reid declined to comment "on rumors."
Asked about entering the Knoxville-area market, Reid replied, "We never say never at Publix. We don't have a confirmed site in Knoxville."
Publix is an employee-owned company with more than 1,000 stores in the Southeast states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
K-VA-T operates 103 retail food outlets throughout Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee.

The Rogersville Food city is a great store with a great selection. It is clean and well lit and well stocked. The employees and management are very helpfull and polite.
But, The prices are marked up way to high! Food City In Rogersville is just to expensive! To High! Not fair prices have driven me elsewhere across town to a place that is alot less expensive. A place where you do not need a value card the prices are less expensive that Rogersville Food City already...Happy Shopping!
