The Tree Board has no real power. Don't worry about them. They are another example of something the city did to get an award while the town really is going down the toilet. With the lawyer for the county and the lawyer for the city being brothers, there ain't going to be much conflict between the entities.

Yep...

Tree board is yet another joke. IMO, there should be a requirement in the zoning laws to establish so many trees per square feet of paved area. Instead, we have roasting acres of asphalt, whether it be Food City, Walmart, or just about any parking lot in the city limits.

But, that's what sets us apart from everywhere else, we elect idiots who appoint morons who run this place in direct opposition to any coherent thought.

The Tree Board has initiated a proposal for proper ordinances to be put in place to protect our tree canopy and the beauty of our town. The award you refer to is the Tree City USA which in turn allow the city to apply for and get certain grants to help our city. Therefore, there is a real purpose for the board to exist.

However, the city nor the board has any authority over the county property such as the Hawkins Elementary School. The Tree Board authority only extents to public city property. Should an ordinance be passed by the Board of Mayor and Alderman would have the power to require new businesses to confirm to certain standards.

Our Tree Canopy helps maintain our town's air quality, temp and many other factors. Research it and see the benefits our Trees bring us!

The trees that were cut down were all pine trees. No doubt the town sold the timber/ They'll do anything the raise money.

Are saying they can prevent cutting trees only on city property? what about the stupid histtorical rules? We know how those ordinances for certain business people works don't we? sounds like just a bunch of bs as usual.

The city can keep you from cutting down your trees if they are recorded historical. But if you have a dead or danger tree they can't prevent you from having them removed. Co-op sells some pretty good herbicide that should solve anyones problem if they need a tree cut. Call me and I'll take em down. The tree board should be required to have an ISA cerified aborist as president. These people wouldn't know a cambium layer if it slapped'em in the face.

A certified aborist? That'll be the day. That would require the employment of someone who is qualified and is not a family member or close friend of the local crime syndicate...

Ain't gonna happen.

You are right! This town is a joke. Small town, big politics! I myself know more about trees than all them combined. I also know that cutting, pruning trees is something that has to be done. Trees in there nature enviroment ( no buildings, powerlines or people around) are best left alone. But when they are planted in the wrong spots they do in fact have to be dealt with by qualified TREE PEOPLE not a bunch of little ladies just wanting to be on a board to impress there peers.

That are in bad spots(close to homes)..one was denied. They are now called whiz trees. You are right i have neighbors that are on the damn thing..talk about noisy..And for some reason they think they are at the top of the food chain when they belong to a city board. been there done that, quit when i realized how worthless those positions are. That and wasting money and time on the hysterical membership..that is as low as you can get.

Can you believe those idiots? One said to just move over a little to see the building and another one said to wait until it gets bigger to cut down. Where do they get these people?

Town of Rogersville owns the 4 corner plots of the courthouse square. The county only owns the actual courthouse.(and annex I assume...)(not the land in front of it where the tree is located....) The land ownership was researched about 5 years ago and that was the finding. Can't cut down your neighbor's tree...
Kinda strange but true.

The tree looks good, is healthy, and the courthouse is still visible. At Christmas when it is properly decorated, it is a beautiful addition to our town. Traditionally, a large tree on the courthouse lawn in a small town is a welcome sight. Maybe this is just personal taste, but we have a big beautiful tree located in our town square and I think it is beautiful..... and if I want a full and detailed view of the courthouse I can take a few steps to either the right or the left & have it all.
