A dad here in Tennessee is hopping mad because his daughter's World Studies class had scheduled a field trip to an Islamic mosque and a Hindu temple to teach the kids about the religions of other cultures and he thought this was pushing "Islamic tolerance" on the kids. Because that's the real danger of coming to understand someone who's not like you -- it could lead to tolerating them.

Anyway, the guy's kid was excused from the field trip due to his protest and was given an alternate written assignment instead. But she still refused to do it because she felt it was too Muslim-y. As she wrote on the assignment sheet,“Due to the surplus of information on Muhammad and Islam, and the lack of information on Christ and Gandhi, I can’t complete the assignment."

Imagine that, a World Studies class having the gall to try and make the students experience the world. "No thank you. I'll be here at home with my dad and Jesus."

How fear-based and close-minded do you have to be to feel threatened by new information that may or may not reinforce your preconceived notions about another culture? Christians can be like children at bedtime who want to hear the same story over and over again -- even though they have a whole bookshelf of other storybooks -- because the story they know by heart is the one that comforts them.

"The New Age Movement" is really big on the UNITY of all the religions, but the real Christian faith won't fall for the Opra/Joel Osteen Propaganda.

At the same time, CHRISTIANS are not allowed to say JESUS or GOD in school. If a CHRISTIAN cannot push their religion on me at school, then the same school does not need to push the MUSLIM or ANY OTHER religion on me either. I am always amazed that the CHRISTIANS are ALWAYS the bad people, but everyone else's beliefs and religions can be taught and spoken anywhere. It is as hypocritical as it gets.
Gays, blacks, whites, Hispanic, Muslims, Iranians, Israelites, Indians, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Satanists, Psychologists, Agnostics, Atheists, and on and on and on the list goes, can say and do anything they want, even some cultures despise Americans and want us dead, and even they have the rights to say and do what they want here in the good ole U.S.A. But CHRISTIANS are dragged through the mud if they say one word. Oh yeah, unless someone needs help after a disaster hits somewhere, or someone is hungry, or needs clothes, or needs help with ANYTHING, then the same people that badmouth them run to them because they know the CHRISTIANS will always help. I know, I have seen it with my own eyes!!
You are a worthless cockroach for even posting something on here about this. I bet on Thanksgiving day there will be a massive amount of people in Hawkins county fed by the Christians in this town that will pass up being with family and friends just to help out those less fortunate. And I bet the majority of those people that will be fed at Joseph Rogers Elementary and those that have food delivered to their front door AT NO CHARGE have badmouthed the very CHRISTIANS that do it for them. I also bet there will be ZERO MUSLIMS up there offering a helping hand too.
Let's be fair here, if you will take your opinions and beliefs, whatever they may be, and shove them as far up your ass as you can possibly shove them, then I will do the same. Otherwise, STFU and let ALL people have the same rights that you think you have!
What if the school system wanted to take your child to church to show them that culture? I bet you would raise hell too.
Like I said, you are a worthless little nasty, disgusting, hypocritical cockroach.

if there was one god , one creator , one word , it would be known world wide and there would be only one religon but instead there are many different BELIEFS as to what and how it really happend , none of which has been proven . education , science , reasonable deduction and logic has come closer to proving evolution than any stories handed down since before education, science, and technology was made readily avialable . there are to many different versions of the bible that have been change to many times over the years to accomodate certian beliefs ... DEVEL preaches the bible but look at the language she uses .

For starters, DEVEL was not preaching anything, neither did DEVEL even say what my belief is. DEVEL was only stating that CHRISTIANS get dragged through the mud if they open their mouths, while everyone else shouts "freedom of speech" and blah blah blah when it comes to what they believe. Science has not proved anything, if so, why do they have to keep searching for answers. The educational system can't even keep kids from killing each other or themselves, logic and reasonable deduction is what has proven most beliefs to be far more acceptable than anything else.
But I still have to ask this question...what is the difference in a man saying "I refuse to let my child be taken somewhere that is 100% opposed to what I believe?" and someone saying the school cannot take my child to a church or teach GOD, JESUS, or a BIBLE?
This man was condemned in this post for what he stands for. But the rest of you condemn DEVEL for stating that he has a right just like you do. So which is it? Do you have a right to refuse your children to be taught different beliefs in school? But this man is bad for wanting the exact same rights for him and his kid?
That is hypocritical in every sense of the word. And trust me, your educational system would teach you that as well.
Oh yeah, do as I say, not as I do.
How about I give your kids permission to do drugs, but tell mine they cannot.
Double-minded.....Holy crap, that is what the BIBLE said people would be. DOUBLE-MINDED. Well, that has been proven to be TRUE in this post alone!!

With the horrible grammar and terrible math scores in Tennessee, I believe the schools should be concentrating on that instead of checking into religions. There will be plenty of time when kids are out of school to make those decisions for themselves.

See? you are still stepping on your own toes. Evolution is a THEORY, not a PROVEN FACT...but it is taught in school!!! So yes, the kids are being taught Darwin's belief which has NEVER been proven!! You still keep missing the point of this post anyhow. The MUSLIM RELIGION is a belief as well and not a proven fat, so why is it ok to teach it to school kids, but not Christianity, or Buddhism, or any other "belief?" See, we all say it is ok to teach our kids what we believe, but if it what someone else believes, it is wrong and should be stomped out. You are DOUBLE-MINDED!!

They teach about other cultures in school the same way they teach about different climates, different languages and different political systems in other countries. So one day your teenager won't walk up to a Pagari wearing foreigner at a gas station and embarrass us all by yelling, "Yer ah terrerist! Yer wearin oneathem terrerist turbans!"

No student has to convert to any culture's religion just like they don't have to become communists if they study about revolutions in China or Russia. Besides if you haven't done your job indoctrinating your child into the church of YOUR choice then maybe YOUR way is not best for them.

I think a great number of people have become completely histrionic over religion and politics because of the lunacy spread by people that need professional help not a political soapbox or pulpit. Your churches aren't dieing because of other religions, their dieing because of the hate and anger inside those churches.

Well, at least you make one good point, No student has to convert to any culture's religion and blah blah blah....
Then why is it ILEGAL for teachers to mention JESUS or GOD in school????? See, DOUBLE-MINDED. And by the way, I don't have any churches. Everyone keeps shoving Christianity on me, and church on me, and I still have not one time said what I believe.
Ok, I will do that now.
I believe that ALL people think they are right and everyone else is wrong. I believe that everyone except Christians have a right to say and feel what they want. I believe that Christians get beaten down and hated more than any other group on the entire planet. I believe that "hate crimes" are despised by all people unless they are being used against a Christian.
I have seen people of other nations fly into the World Trade Centers and kill thousands of Americans, I have seen them blow up runners in Boston, they have killed many of our soldiers, and death, and death, and death to Americans. And every single person that has commented on this post about some guy saying my kid is not going any where near a Muslim, has spent their entire time defending the Muslims and condemning the Christians. I cannot help but wonder just how much HATRED and ANGER you people carry against one group of people. Each and every one of you have screamed for this man to accept what you think and at the same time DAMNED me, not even knowing what I believe, and the Christians. Let me put it in a nice phrase for all of you...

Evolve, I believe you are correct in what you're saying. I see no reason, and I've said it before, that religion and the basis of the religious belief's be taught in public schools. When I was in high school I studied Greek Mythology. In the same class I also learned Norse Mythology and Roman Mythology. In reality Mythology being another word for Religion. I did not run out and start worshiping Oden,Zeus or Thor. I learned that other cultures may have different names for the same gods. Note I said Gods, plural meaning more than one. Here in North America, the native Indians worshiped The Great Spirit along with spirits of the water, earth and just about anything else that they could not readily explain.

In short knowledge is power. When we learn the basis behind other cultures beliefs we have empowered ourselves. You can not condemn what you do not understand. When you do, you become no more advanced than the first cave man who recoiled in fear at the first sight of fire.
