I'm looking for some reason to support one of them! Can anyone give me a reason?

No matter which one you decide to support, go out and vote. The timing of the election and voter apathy have led to around 1000 people always picking the BMA. That's why we're in the shape we're in.

The gridlock in Rogersville city and county government needs to be broken. Really don't know if it is possible since the control is so tight and has existed so long, but voting for the same people and their cronies or not voting at all just compounds the problems. We already know that things will just get worse if the same people remain in office, but talking with the candidates and actually going out to vote your informed opinion might help start some change for the better. The people that can not think for themselves and go the path of least resistance should lose their seats. We need strong individuals with strong values, morals, and a good dose of integrity in office. Now that would give us a good start to actually fix some of the problems that are hurting our citizens.

Looks like somebody is trying to get a little mud slinging started. Probably won't work since last week Topix turned over the name of the person who posted ugly stuff last year.

Since the track records and integrity of the incumbents are best known, I will be voting for as few of them as possible. Fortunately we have a few new brave citizens that are showing a willingness to try and make a difference and I will vote to give them that chance. I wish John Johnson was running again because I feel that he gave it a good shot. If we can get enough voters out to make a dent in the 'good ol boys regime' then that might be a start for getting out of this well we have been in for generations.

When is the election? Our local election commission sucks, we have all these weird elections in strange months and there's often no notice about them. There's no voter information guide, no sample ballots, nothing.

Early voting is weekdays from May 13-24. Election Day is Saturday, June 1. Sample ballots should be in this week's paper. The election dates aren't really up to the Election Commission. The city administration makes that decision, and doesn't want the election tied in with any other so the turnout stays low. High turnout is bad for incumbents.

Remember Sells voted to annex the people on the west side of town. If you think that doesn't affect you think about the cost of services to that area, at least 12 million for sewer, more cops, more school rooms and teachers, more garbage collection, less water revenue so that means more taxes for you. If growth paid for itself living in New York city would be cheaper than living in Morristown.

Maybe if the annexation extended to Mooresburg! The city will definitely come out ahead in revenue generated despite the additional residents served by the "amenities." If I'm not mistaken, the sewer is already accessible to many of the residents proposed to be annexed. I can't imagine it would cost $12 million to connect to the existing sewer - but, I'm not an expert in the field (thank goodness)!

Ms. Elder stated Rgersville was the only Town Doing elections separate from State and Federal Elections and how much that would cost the town. First.aaa several other Towns and Cities have separate elections such as Morristown and Johnson City for two. The reason being so that voters can focus better on only local issues. Secondly Ms. Elder has seen fit to place poll workers at both voting sites and has increased the cost to voters because of her lack ofknowledge and concern for cost issues. It seems she had the same problems of understanding money matters at two prior places of employment. Not a good choice if you ask me. Just my opinion . She is a nice person. but not a good choice for office.

Get your facts straight. She said the only town IN THE COUNTY that holds a separate election. Church Hill, Surgoinsville, and Bulls Gap hold elections in conjunction with other elections. Even Rogersville holds its School Board election with other elections.

Secondly, the poll watchers add NO COST TO THE TAXPAYERS. They are volunteers.

Know the facts before you comment and you won't look like such a fool.

Poll workers are paid. Poll watchers are not. The reason the town is going to have to pay poll workers the next two weeks is because the present city government insists on a freestanding election for mayor and aldermen. You're blaming the wrong party for the extra expense to the city.

For the city tax payers...anybody know the cost....i know it hurts voter turn out and results in keeping the sameones in office. after that big raise they gave themselves we should let the BMA pay for it by deducted their pay.

People can speculate all day on how a new administration would actually do things, but change is the ONLY CHANCE we have. There is too much waste and corruption right now that contributes to the horrific downfall of our community. Folks, this is all tied together. The corruption here is not only in the courts but has gone on so long that it has deep roots into every office and interest in this town. Look at the drug problem and crime issues here. Much of this is tied together. When our elected officials cannot be trusted to deal with simple issues quickly and efficiently then the problems just increase. Our community is overrun with the abuse of power and when elected officials have a sense of immunity and entitlement like we have here – the rest of us lose. We use to have a good Parks & Rec program and look what special interest has done to that. Even some banks have shadows over them, and the same families have overseen many public offices in town for generations. If our mayor and BMA cannot be trusted to fix these things (and they have certainly proven that they will not) then stirring up the pot by replacing some of these people is the only chance our children’s families and we have. This problem is increasing and is causing hardship to tax payers. I would like to have a sense of pride in the administration that I pay to support instead of embarrassment. The current officials work together to do anything they please and do not consider what is best for the greater good. I would simply like to see officials placed in office that have the focus of working for the taxpayers by being efficient and accountable to the average citizen and not just taking care of their own families and cronies. I would like to see a good cleaning of office holders and enough concerned citizens to actually make a difference in lives around here. We can be sure of one thing… the current problems will only increase and the web of special interest will only get tighter if the same people are reelected and they are doing everything possible to scare voters into thinking that the sky will fall if the same old people aren’t there to ‘take care of them’. We need people that can set their own agendas aside and vote for what is actually best for the taxpayers in our town.

Did some checking and found out that you almost had it right..yes poll watchers aren't payed , but the election commission has to pay an additional person to watch the poll watchers (to keep them from voter interfernce or intimidation) and that person is payed by taxpayers at an hourly rate. The person being payed is called an inspector . At anytime someone places a poll watcher in the building then extra people are needed to watch them no matter when the election is held . Therefore by placing Ann Trent and Hedrick Winkle on premises to poll watch then the cost to the tax payers is greater. Call Donna Sharp she can explaine it better perhaps.Silly isn't it Just so silly

But it definitely is necessary. Actually sad that it really needs to be done. Our toes might just curl if we really knew what goes on in these cases. We all need to get involved to clean up our town.
