I have recently been told by a friend that Hawkins county is looking at having one EMS service for the county. As some may know our county has had two different ambulance services providing care for many years, one in the upper end and one in the county seat. This has not been a large problem until recently when both services placed a truck in Surgoinsville, fighting over the same area. My father a 72 year old man with a heart condition lives just inside the city limits and never knows which of the two services will come to him and has had to wait an extreme amount of time for an ambulance in the past when he has had chest pain. It is my opinion that I don't care which comes as long as it is in a timely manner.
I recently spoke with a long time friend that is in our county government, he said that our government is fed up with the bickering as much as the people are. He also spoke of an out side company from Knoxville that is showing an interest in providing care for our county. He spoke of a study that is being done on both company currently providing care. The study is to see what would be best for the county. Our government was leaning toward the out side service since the other two companies have been bickering for many years and do not seem to be able to get past there differences. I spoke to two other members of our county government that also confirmed this. They stated that the women that owns the ambulance company in Knoxville offered to provide the same leave of service as the two existing companies free of charge. I was also told that she has gone to the lengths to even interview individuals for up coming positions in our county.
Now I know that allot of the information is second hand and may not be 100% accurate, but the individuals I have spoken with are very reliable. I for one think that this is a great idea. I believe that one company providing service county wide would improve care though out the county. Instead of the two fighting over a small part of it and not be concerned about the rest of there obligations.
I for one look forward to better care for my father as well as the rest of the county and I hope that who ever does become the company that provides service to our fair county that they care more about helping our citizens then bickering over politics and money.
No way

Surgoinsville has signed a contract for Church Hill EMS to have substation in the fire hall. You have bad info, since Hawkins co emS is NOT stationed in surgoinsville

Hawkis county does have an ambulance in the phipps bend area oly AFTER Church hill placed theirs in Surgoinsville. I personally know that response times for Hawkins county EMS are down right ridiculous.. a family member of mine waited 20 + minutes for a chest pain call why because they responded from Surgoinsville... Not acceptable. Your right the fight has gone on for years and years because our EMA director and county government is stupid. Let's see what makes since people.... hawkins county ems does not have the money to run the entire county... it would be impossible.

I agree with the poster! I believe it is time for a change in Hawkins county. The two ambulance service do not really care about the people, one is more worried about making money and the other more worried about being in the paper. My husband has worked in EMS for 14 years in surrounding areas and the things that he has said that goes on in our county is appalling!

He helps stir the pot... plays both sides... regardless of who is in control patient care should be the concern.. Hawkins County should learn that. Instead their interest is parades and how many units they can put on one call

I believe a county wide Ambulance service would be the best thing for this county afterall it works for every other county around us so why do we have to be different ? A merger between Hawkins County and Churchhill EMS is what we need every county that has gotten rid of their homegrown county anbulance service in the past have very much regretted it and still do to this day just go ask unicoi and cocke counties for starters and there are other counties across tennessee that have made the same mistake and nothing against lifeguard ambulance service which has locations across the United States and the nearest which is in knoxville and lifeguard is a very good company and they pay their employees very well it's just not what we need here in hawkins county we don't need a company we need a EMS agency with a caring heart thats Non-Profit and not in it for the money but for the compassion of the people hopefully the government of hawkins county will talk to other countues across the state before they make a terrible decision and get rid of their county ambulance service for a outside out source agency Hawkins and Churchhill EMS shoud agree to join together or before a outside service comes in Hawkins and Churchhill shoud be forced to join together .
Only an opinion

I have heard all the stories of how these two services got started. It seems as though, from my point of view, that Hawkins County has an ems service. The ambulances say "Hawkins County EMS" on them. From what I am hearing, Its not the employees of either service that the argument is between. It appears that the upper management of Churchhill EMS is the one stirring this mess. Mr. Fred Arnold is sending his ambulances outside of Hawkins County to make money for his service , but yet he gives nothing back into the county, only his wallet. There are some good employees that have left C.H.E.M.S. because they were tired of the bullshit that was going on.Good for them. Now they can make an honest living and have no regrets.
It appears that there is an issue about a line that seperates the services. Well It is my opinion, and only my opinion, that Churchhill should take there line where the churchhill city limits begin and Hawkins County should take from there down.
Now The Mayor of Surgoinsville needs to remember that his little town of Surg. is not New York City and realize it takes money to run those ambulances. Its not a matter of who is better or who is willing to serve Surg. It appears both services are willing to do that. Perfect example. My father passed away with a massive heart attack and it would not of mattered which ambulance had been sitting beside him, they could not of saved him.
Each service has there own down falls, maybe one more than the other , but neither is perfect. Most of the employees for either service are only trying to make a living just like John Doe In a plant. Some have more compassion than others, some struggle on a daily basis with the thought of a child that was killed in an accident, some wished they could of done more for a mother that quit breathing, but there was nothing else that could of been done, or a dad that overdosed and all they can hear is a child screaming please help my daddy, but its too late.
We all have an opinion of these services. To Serve the citizens of Hawkins County.
