I would have say that they can't do any more advanced procedures that CHEMS if so what??? Also look at the equipment I do believe CHEMS has better equipment and can do more things than HCEMS. Also I have checked and that call was priority 3 which means u have 30 min to go enroute. SO...
Citizen, I'm not sure where you are getting your information at. A priority 1 call means you have 30 sec-1 min to be enroute. A priority 3 call means you have up to 3 minutes to be enroute. Heck, an overdose is a priority 3 call, so your saying an ambulance has 30 minutes to be enroute on priority 3 calls. I'm sorry, but your wrong. An ambulance is only sent priority 3 on such calls to give the law enforcement agency time to get on scene and secure it. Also, if you have checked that CHEMS can do more procedures than HCEMS then what are they. HCEMS can RSI, do needle cricothyroid punctures and much more. Can CHEMS do this or do I need to explain what they are? And the thing about who has the best equipment is beyond the point. If the equipment work and the person knows how to use is then that is good enough. Its about PATIENT CARE not who has the best equipment.

I don't think CHEMS receives any money from the county.CH Rescue squad gets $60,000.00 as does HC Rescue.I'm not sure of the figure, but I know both EMS'don't get anything from the County.
Both Rescue Squads operate the EMS. Both squads set this up (Board of Directors) several years ago and they developed a charter/franchise to keep other (private) EMS corporations out of the county. Sullivan County government attempted to keep CHEMS from operating within the county but that fell through.

If anyone really had the time to check the records they would find that "more than often" CHEMS's response time is delayed because the "lack of available units". This is associated with them being tied up on non-emergency transports to and from the hospitals and county to county. This is where they have made the money to pay for a new building!

As long as CHEMS responds to their designated area in Hawkins County in the required amount of time,I have no problem with them having a station in Sullivan County,or anywhere.Hawkins County granted them their charter, but if they can make some money( I understand they are doing well) branching out in Sullivan County, go for it.I think they pay their personell good wages and benefits and have the best of equipment.Stanley Arnold is a good director.I am in the area of HCEMS,and could not ask for a better EMS.Despite some minor rivalry, they cover each other when one is stretched thin ,which happens to ALL EMS providers.Every person in Hawkins County who wears the Star Of Life,is ok in my book!

I know for a fact that a very young girl died from a cardiac arrest at a local plant in phips bend and it took hawkins county a very long time to respond. I dont know how people can lay there head down at night and espicially a 911 system who cant dispatch the closet ambulance. wiether its church hill ems or who ever it should be about the patients everyone know that the hawkins county line has always ended at about afg and hawkins county ems most workers not all are very snobby. so when u point one finger you have 3 pointing right back some people need to grow up

Sometimes when an ambulance goes in route to a priority 3 call a priority 1 comes in. They get switched to the priority 1. The next unit clear takes the priority 3. Yes, CHEMS can do needle crics, RSI, 12 leads, CPAP, and are just as advanced. It Is not about who is better or all the politics. It is about who is closer and clear to take the call. If all units were on calls 911 should have sent a HC unit. WHY! was a shooting a priority 3? It should have been priority 1 and the unit staged close until the scene was secure. At times BOTH services have to go in to unsafe areas because the caller does not give 911 all the info or the right info. People have learned what makes a call a priority. They tell 911 something different than what is going on. The people who really need an ambulance downplay what is going on. I do not know who the family is that had the terrible loss. My heart goes out to them. Instead of pointing fingers and all the "this service is better" talk why don't we all yeild to the lights and siren, stay out of the way when these people are working, watch the road as we drive by wrecks not try to see the blood, and tell the ems personel no matter which service it is what is actually going on. It would help every citizen of hawkins county.
