I know all servers should receive a tip for serving your meal, and I know that most of the time, their hourly pay is less than minimun wage and the tips are supposed to bring them up to minimum wage, but my question is this:
At Sonic you have the option of paying with a debit/credit card, and since most of my transactions are with a debit card, I rarely have cash, so when I pay for my purchase at Sonic, I am unable to tip the person that brings my order to me. What is expected at places like this? I have had some individuals tell me that you are not supposed to tip at Sonic. Is that right? Or should I try to carry some cash if I am going to Sonic to tip if I pay with debit/credit card? Just wondering what everyone else does at Sonic. thanks

Why dont you just tell them to add the tip into your transaction when using your debit/credit card?

I pay at the car so they wont' have to walk back in there to run the debit card inside. I suppose when I place my order I could ask to add a tip, but I was also wanting to know what everyone else does, do they tip, etc.
thank you for your reply.

They make less than 4 dollars as a car hop because they get tips. If you have no cash to tip, feel free to ask for the general manager to ask how to leave a tip. These girls can't make a living off only the hourly pay. So be sure to tip.

Thanks! I appreciate the suggestion and for letting me know that they rely on tips as all servers do. I will take your advice and just ask for it to be added.

Do you tip the woman at the second window at mcdonalds to hand you your food? No. So why should you tip the person who brings you your food at sonic? Same concept. I'm not tipping them. Now, if they were running back and forth, refilling drinks or bringing me extra ketchup, I would, but they aren't. They're just handing me a bag and a drink or two. I don't tip McDonalds drive-thru, why should I tip sonic?

Why do you want to be such a stingy [email protected]? It's not gonna kill your dumb A$$ to give the Sonic girl a dollar or so when they walk out to give your fat, lazy a$$ the food you ordered.

I earn my money same as they do, and no one tips me to do my job. My tip to them is this : if you don't like your paycheck, get a better job. All they are doing is walking a bag of food and a drink or two to me. I don't tip McDonalds to hand me my food or any other fast food restaurant, why would I them?

Is astounding...mcdoos makes min wage sonic and oother servers have a diff and lower min wage that is about half since most decent and thoughtful people tip...fast food or non server resturants make the min wage.

Anyone who doesn't throw a dollar or two their way for a tip is just a stingy [email protected] in my opinion though.

No one brought religion here. Shut up.
And those people are right. It take em 30 minutes just to bring a drink, and its usually wrong. They don't earn tips.
