The family is the Hunley family, She works at Food City here in Rogersville, and they have lost everything in the house fire. What I know at this time is he wears 36-34 pants and large shirts, I would say she is a 14 pant large shirt...Please pray for the family, it is hard losing your home to fire.....

Sure do hate that anyone's home burns down. Hopefully our community can help them with their rebuilding.

Did this house catch on fire twice? The paper said it was 6am but thought some one on here posted that it started at night

I have wondered this myself. This thread was started shortly after 11 pm on Wed April 11, yet the fire was reported at 6 am on April 12. Either there were 2 house fires on Creek Rd or something does not make sense.

Same house, started on Wed night and was "out" but then rekindled the next morning and burnt to the ground, nothing confusing, this happens with structure fires quite often.

Especially in Surgoinsville.

Why did the fire chief not acknowledge that the fire that destroyed the house was actually a rekindle in the paper interview?

because he doesn't want to admit that this is the 2nd house he and his dept has allowed to burn to the ground since he took over the dept??? I believe if people would go back and check the statistics there was not a lost house during the former administration (I could be misquoting here and if so I apologize) but I do know for a fact that there wasn't one that burnt to the ground within spitting distance of the fire department under that administration. I just saw an article that they want to build another department...what a joke...they can't save houses with the department they have now...WHY would the citizens of Surgoinsville pay to help them build another one?

Oh and one more thing to add, I believe there were more Carter's and Stanley Valley fireman at this house fire than their were Surgoinsville but then again that's not surprising either. Keep up the good work Surgoinsville.

Maybe because it has happened before. Remember a while back when the house next to Surg FD caught on fire, they "put it out" then it also burnt to the ground.

House next to fire department was what, like 70 feet away. It actually caught on fire 3 times. Second fire, no Surgoinsville fire department truck EVER arrived on scene. However, Mayor and fire chief were standing in the yard WATCHING it burn when the homeowners came back.Fire chief wasnt dressed out.Third fire was next morning, but fire deparment doesnt acknowledged that one.

Just find it interesting that they didnt disclose it was indeed on fire the night before. Just seemed like instead of buying a big building and adding on to it, spending tax dollars for a big nice empty building, they train the firemen to actually put a fire out...you know..the first flippin time

Surgoinsville Fire Dept is a joke. You have people who either can't or won't be there for fires. This was predicted when they "fired" their former chief and all the decent members left with him, the dept is all about politics (oh wait, that is the entire town of Surgoinsville) and it is just who you know and whos butt you kiss. It's just sad that good honest people and tax payers homes are burning to the ground while fire trucks are sitting in the fire dept with nobody to run them. I believe it is time for the fine citizens of Surgoinsville to go to a City Hall meeting and demand some answers as to why this is 2 homes in less than 6 months and again one is within 40 ft of the fire department.

I agree. They need to be held accountable for this. Two houses gone after the fire department declared them out and sent the families away thinking it was safe to leave.

I think fire chief and leadership should answer for how this has happened twice in less than 6 months. Or at the very least the mayor and board need to reassure us how they intend to protect us, the citizens and just how they intend to do that from a firehall located on llw when they let their one burn down on church st, right beside them.

Makes sense to relocate AWAY from population...we have church hill ems, maybe we need their fire department.

SFD is a joke, they had a good fire department and they run everyone off because we didn't kiss the city -ss. So now they have got the yes men in there now every time there is a fire what ever it is it burns down.

All u haters and mouth runners should come join the "VOLUNTEER" fire dept in surgoinsville instead of complaining. Ya Dustin Housewright.. the chief... Is a sorry bastard but hey look... He's better than nothin

The "VOLUNTEER" fire department needs training before they get someone killed either in their own ranks or the general public, since they have demonstrated they do not know what they are doing.

First house was due to ammo getting hot? Second house was due to inner walls from renovation being hot? I call bs...theysimply did not have either fire out. They didn't realize that since they didnt see flames that heat will remain, hence, flames could return and burn down the houses along with all the belongings!!

Two families lost everything and I feel the town administration need to explain what they intend to do so it doesnt happen again!!

If the fire chief is, as per your words," sorry bastard" he should step down. When will they revamp the department like they did when they got rid of Jason?Say what you will..his department never lost a house to a rekindle and they responded every time rather than allowing other departments to come in while they stood and watched.

Who's family will be next and what boatload of crap excuse will they use then??

In regards to the comment "join the department" their bylaws state that you must be a resident of Surgoinsville to be a member so therefore I would not qualify, however, if I were a resident I am more than qualified as I am a State Certified Fire Fighter and can put the money where the mouth is. This department is there in name only and right at this moment that name is MUD!!! Two houses in less than 6 months, I just thank God that nobody has been hurt. I am certain though that insurance rates will soar as insurance companies frown upon fire departments that "stand back" and watch buildings burn to the ground. Kudos to Stanley and Carter's Valley and also Striggersville for at least trying to save property while Surgoinsville either stands back and watches or doesn't show up at all. Keep up the good work Dustin, so far you have proven you really are the man for the job (intended with 110% sarcasm)
