"I think we need to have that moment where we realize [we're] going broke. If the debt ceiling isn't raised, that will sure as heck be a moment. I think, personally, it would bring stability to the world markets."

That's Ted Yoho, freshman Republican Rep from Florida, talking to The Washington Post. And he should know, because until last year Ted was the Vice President of Global Strategy at Citigroup....Oh, I'm sorry, he was actually a large animal veterinarian. With zero economic or political experience.

When people talk about the 30-40 Tea Party know-nothings driving this country towards default, Ted Yoho is one of them.

"I see one side of our government, or two-thirds of it, running 100 miles an hour toward socialism," Yoho said, meaning President Obama and the Democrat-led Senate. "You're seeing the tremor before the tsunami here. I'm not going to raise the debt ceiling."

Sounds like a reasonable man. Well, here's a fun number for Ted, which he'll ignore because it is a big one:$517 billion. That's the amount Lehman owed when it filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 15, 2008, which started the financial collapse and the Great Recession.

And here's an even bigger number:$12 trillion. That’s the amount of outstanding government debt. It's 23 times as large as Lehman. That's what idiots like Ted Yoho are f---ing with.

And the fun part is: most of the people in Ted's ultra-conservative district agree with Ted. In north central Florida, being a moron and a hostage taker is a big winner.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the modern day Republican Party.

Tea party members shut down the government coasted over $23 billion and all they got out of the deal was a income verification of Obama care which was already part of the law to begin with. your right it is time to send these tea party people back home and Ted Cruz back to Canada it's time to retire Phil Roe and Marsha Blackburn.

This country is being ruined by the people who are spending us into bankruptcy. Unless drastic measures are taken to rein in spending, this county will find itself in the same dire straits as Greece and Spain. This is the richest country in the world. We should not have to be borrowing money from China to pay for excessive government spending. We should be the lender getting paid interest, not the borrower paying interest on a debt. All these social programs promoted by the Democrats are ruining us financially and creating a class of worthless government dependent people. The TEA party didn't get us in the shape we're in.

So they judged you as nuts for telling the truth. Shows how stupid global warming loving liberals are. I heard today China has downgraded our credit rating. It's looking pretty bad, hide your money.

I don't know where the 49 percent who don't pay taxes yet are getting their figures. The USA owes right at 17 Trillion directly and NOT 12 Trillion listed above. When George W. Bush left office at the end of 2008 the USA owed almost 10 Trillion. Last year or so the US government was spending $1.45 for every $1.00 being collected from all sources.
The Clinton Administration did not balance the Federal budget as some Democrats claim BECAUSE they borrowed the different from the Social Security collections and they sold numerous miltary bases and equipment. Yippy S___!
Also, some of the US Government agencies stared borrowing their funds independently of the US Treasury like TVA. Others quaranteed loans instead of making them directly but the federal is still obligated.
This is another major problem. Seventeen Trillion is not all of the debt. Entries like TVA has borrowed huge amounts of money on their own outside of the federal budget and independently of the US Treasury. Other US Government agencies has borrowed huge amounts of money which they loaned others like the USDA Rural Development and the FHA-HUD beyond their quarantees of even larger sums.
One very recent newspaper story during the partial shutdown claimed toal obligations including guarantees of the US Governments exceeds 98 Trillions.
Now, regardless what happens, the budget in the future is going to balance itself because no banks, investers and other governments will be willing to loan us anymore.
Therefore, I know that our only hope for the future of our country is the "Tea" party with the support of conservative Democrats (like the southern Democrats aka Dixie-crats) and conserative Republicans! Before you judge this and reply to it, please reread it, think about it, and check the facts for yourself.

Above, "they borrowed the difference from the Social Security collections" instead of different.
Someone judged this as "nuts" and "clueless". How so?

"I know that our only hope for the future of our country is the "Tea" party with the support of conservative Democrats (like the southern Democrats aka Dixie-crats)"

What part of needlessly losing 24 billion dollars (because of a pointless shutdown), forcing hard working small business owners to lose everything so some rednecks can wave a rebel flag outside the White house along with a couple of inbred nutcases makes you think the Tea Party can save anything? They cost the GOP the last election and they Will lose the GOP the house.

You have no clue how badly this Tea Party orchestrated cluster *uck has damaged our image and our credit rating. Our enemies are laughing at the traitors in congress who willingly attempted to destroy their own economy, again. Our allies are stunned and furious we have sunk so low as to allow extremists to hijack our democratic process and hold US citizens hostage.

What is wrong with a balanced checkbook I have to balance mine, bet you do to. And as for Obama care when the first amendment was that the Congress, Senate and the Executive branch of the government didn't have to sign up I knew I didn't want it and don't want to pay for it either. And I would say you also believe in the tooth fairy.

O and by the way you surely don't believe what any news company said about the price of eggs in China. They're after ratings and they would spin anything to get them. I think the government should live by the same laws they expect me to live by, what about you?

As long as a person can support what we have lording over this country right now that person has lost any validity in criticizing what anyone else might think or say because they are clearly deficient in their ability to assess anything accurately. This is the season for fools and they are plentiful. If you are supporting this debt and want to see it increase then you really don't have the good sense to add 2+2 so your vote should not count. This is a period of self-imposed blindness because even common sense has been cast aside. There use to be hope that the majority would have the courage and moral compass to get us back on coarse in America, but that time is gone. Amazed with the amount of stupid from ‘leaders’. A ‘good ole boy’ with a third grade education has more going for himself than a Harvard grad. Fear that we are so far over the falls that there is no way back.

Obamacare is mandatory spending, so it gets funded no matter what. That's one of the stupidest things about this mess -- Republicans took the wrong hostage. It's like somebody calling you and threatening, "I've got your kid, and I'm gonna put a bullet in her unless you give me a million dollars." And you're like, "No, my daughter's right here. You must have the neighbor's kid. Go ahead and shoot her, I don't care."

I'd like to see the Obama administration find a way to start shutting down all the things Republicans like. They say they hate government, but they love defense contractors, oil and farm subsidies, military bases in conservative districts and border security. Experts say officers on our borders will stay there, but why? What if we said, "Nope, come on in, Mexico. Door's open." How long could these idiots put up with that?

Or what about Afghanistan? Why not leave a little early? We're still spending about $100 billion a year there. And cutting it short would have the added benefit of reminding people that we're still actually there.

One month ago, on September 12, al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri released an audiotape with an accompanying video of him swinging naked on a wrecking ball calling on terrorists to launch smaller attacks that would provoke the United States into over-reacting. I don't know where he got the idea we'd fall for that.

Al-Zawahri said, "We should bleed America economically by provoking it to continue in its massive expenditure on its security, for the weak point of America is its economy, which has already begun to stagger due to the military and security expenditure."

Al-Zawahri's message, according to a Reuters report, was that "keeping America in such a state of tension and anticipation only required a few disparate attacks 'here and there.'"

Did you ever see a prizefight where one fighter assumes a protected stance on the ropes and lets the other fighter wail away on him, causing the aggressor to become so tired that he "punches himself out?" Muhammad Ali, a Muslim, shocked the world when he did it to George Foreman, a Christian. I believe they called it "rope-a-dope."

So, we've kind of seen this before. We know it's al Qaeda's plan. Here's a crazy idea: what say we not keep playing right into their hands?

Conservatives' big, trump-card putdown in national security debates is to accuse their naïve, liberal opponents of wanting to "return to a pre-9/11 mentality." And liberals are so terrified of this label they're often more than willing to keep our war-on-terror machine at full throttle.

But isn't it time we considered returning to at least somewhat of a pre-9/11 mentality? I'm not talking about sticking our heads in the sand and assuming oceans can protect us. But can't we keep a reasonable level of enhanced intelligence and security measures and start scaling back the bloated, wasteful security/war industry that's bleeding us economically?

I'm just saying there are more prudent, cost-effective ways to respond to a spider in the bathroom than calling in Terminix to tent the house.

It ain't hard. Just have to know who your enemy is and this country doesn't. When a government does everything in it's power to destroy it's own economy and hurt the few taxpayers it has left just shows how stupid the leaders and their supporters are. As far as the debt is concerned just cutting the government waste and pork would free up billions but we ALL know that is not on the table and will never be. This country is it's own worse enemy. Incredibly stupid and cannot be defended.

is clearly not the problem here. The problem is the people currently IN CHARGE. They are leading the country into oblivion. SPEND more and WASTE more and pad my pockets more is the current mandate. The minute they are challenged at any level they start the whining, pointing fingers, and indulging in name calling because they have no defense for their actions. Sorry, but don’t see how this picture can be brought back into focus. The crazies are in charge and looks like they will stay there. It is a power thing and it takes difference forms. Small town ‘give me’ politics is Republican at our local level, and is destructive and harmful to individuals. At the national level it is Democratic and extremely ugly, much more visible to the world, and could easily destroy this country while we play our little games of power. A few individuals may win, but this country is losing big time and there is a point of no return.

Democrats and liberals should be rounded up and placed in concentration camps for "re-education", and if that doesn't take we will kill them with kindness. I suggest giving them ice cream, flowers and nice compliments until they DIE!!!!!!!!
