I don't know, what was closed up exactly?

You know, it is very hard to find, there are almost no signs, and there is no parking, and the spring is on private property and is a pretty tiny thing you don't even notice unless you know where to look. Something we need in town is a pamphlet that describes how to find it in ways that make sense. I think it took me 3 hrs of driving around the first time before I found it.

There is a gate across the lane that leads up to the church. Is this what you mean? Just park your car off the road and walk up the hill to the church and school.

The spring is to the right of the brick house before you go up the hill. It bubbles up out of the rocks and flows under the spring house.

Several years ago I designed a rack card about the spring and property. It is printed on blue card stock and is available at the Rogersville Depot.

And it is Ebbing & Flowing Spring, not Springs. There is only one spring there.

Be sure not to step on the concrete where the water flows across the road. It is very slick!

Just park at the grey brick building and walk behind it. You'll see the water coming out of the Spring. It may or may not be in its "flow" stage though.

"From Rogersville's town square, travel east 1.1 miles on Main Street to Burem Road, bearing right at Amis Historical House. Turn left on Ebbing and Flowing Spring Road and go 2.3 miles. Ruins of a stone mill are 0.1 mile on the right, and the spring is 0.4 mile beyond."

I wouldnt suggest walking and lookinfg at it. The lady that owns it is a little hateful especially if you trespass. Always knock and ask the owners first.

If the lady that owns it is indeed hateful, then perhaps this attraction shouldn't be publicized. I came from out of town to see it (because it was in the tourism brochure) and never did find it. No signs of any kind. Why promote it in publications but then not have any signs to indicate where it is located?

I am sorry to say, that both the Beal sisters have passed on.......However, they were always nice to me, but I was nice to them also, Back then when out kids were little we could not afford to go to the local pool, or have one at home, we used to go out and let them play in the spring that crossed the road..........Those were the days!!!!!!!!!!

I had one of the Beal sisters as a patient of mine before she died she was always nice to me and told me stories about the place.. She was a funny lady. Since both have passed on who is over teh property now. I have been there and the graveyard is a little creepy but very intersting and I would love to see the inside of the church the outside is nice. They used to have service there I wonder have they stopped or not??

You can also get there by going out past the new food city, staying on main street. continue past Joesph Rogers Elem. school, then take the first road to the right.........It is very crooked and narrow, be careful, it is maybe a mile out that way, then behold the creek across the road. This is Ebbing Flowing Spring!! there used to be a picnic table set up that you could relax and listen to the creek flow by........

The Spring is behind the milk house. It stays a constant 34 degrees year round. It will ebb and flow just like its name.

Miss Matilda has passed away, but Miss Mary is alive and still kicking in her inimitable way.

There still is church there every Sunday morning at 10. We love to go, especially to Homecoming.

You should stop by and see Mary. She loves you and your family.

Well I was confused until Carolynn said Mary was still alive. I think Matilda gave the rights to the spring to the town. The church is really beautiful with the curved banisters in the front. I knew they still have services there but I thought it was every 2 weeks but I could be wrong.
There are only 2 of these types of these springs, here in Rogersville and in the other is in Germany I think.

No it doesn't. What makes you think this is even possible - let alone believable?
