To be honest, I don't know why I'm posting this request for information here on Topix. Part is a genuine desire to get some meaningful information; part is to see how many lies, rumors, character assassinations, and the normal Topix content wind up getting posted. Lastly, of course, is to see how many tangential conversations are created from this thread.

Looking to possibly build a new home in Rogersville and I don't have any knowledge of builders, construction firms, or contractors in Hawkins County. I'm interested to know (particularly from those who actually have constructed/purchased a house whether you can recommend a builder or construction firm that performed on budget, on time, and met your quality expectations. Would prefer to hear from persons with recent experience, won't really help me if you built your house 20 years ago.

As much as I appreciate the rumor mongering and character assassination, especially all the talk about hobags, drug dealers, hotties, junkies, and informants... would appreciate your feedback on the topic as described.

Mark Young built our house 2 yrs ago and while the house is well built, we have had some issues that he was not willing to fix even while it was still under warranty. We even has lawyers involved. I would not recommend him. He also built a friends house and would not honor her year warranty.

The State Legislature voted in the requirement in the last session. Our Representative COULD have exempted this County as other Reps did, but he chose not to. The County Commission could have opted out by a two thirds vote, but chose not to also, SOOOOO there you have it !

Nice salary for part-time work !. The County did not hire one,(YET). I believe they are contracting with one that the State has approved to do the job.

Pennington Properties builds great houses. They are located off Big Creek near the Pig & Chick. They are GC's, college educated and experienced. They are licensed,$1mill+ bonded. Go to www.tn.gov and check out the GC's in our area. Many of the area's GC's (general contractor) have very low bonding authority or their license has lapsed or was cancelled by the State.

If you watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Pennington Properties was one of the GC's who built a house for that football coach in Georgia. It aired in May 10'.

Mike Barner built our house and in 8 years we have not had one thing to complain about! He can build a house just by looking at the picture in the house plan book, don't have to spent a lot of money on blueprints. He is an excellent builder and a good man. If you want to see his work, drive through Brooks Landing Sub. He built almost every house in it and there are some big beautiful houses there.

I would also highly recommend Pennington Properties. Like an earlier post stated they are bonded to $1 million and their service after the sale is exemplary. I worked on a house that they built in Stanley Valley and when there was a problem with one of the pipes (very minor drip) they brought in a new plumber and replaced all the drain pipes, out of their own pocket of course. I heard Mrs Pennington comment that they are only as good as their last build, which really impressed me. Another thing that impressed me about them is how they don't really advertise. So instead of having 20 different projects going on all at once they really take the time to focus completely on the task at hand. They are good, christian people and when I save enough money I hope to be able to hire them to build a house for me and my family. Also, I usually don't go on and on, endorsing people or companies like this, but this company and these people truly deserve for everyone to know how great they are.

I have to recommend Bryan Creasy Weston builders out of Church Hill. The go to contractor/builder of those that want the best. He built many homes in Allendale, Surgoinsville, Church Hill area and all are quality and beautiful. I can only say the best if you want the best call him. Good luck to you and please, please research the land before you buy it. Good luck to you.

I very much appreciate the good advice. Fortunately, the land is already "in the family"... we know it quite well and don't foresee those kinds of issues. Just don't want to throw money down a rathole with a less-than-reliable builder who looks to do everything on the cheap.

Mike Barner - I think I spelled last name correct- would have my vote also. I have seen alot of his work and he does an excellent job. By the way, Barry East is the best bricklayer and blocklayer in the county. I don't know whether he still does it or not.

Wonderful, I think you would be happy with Bryan Creasy as we all are. Excellent reputation and premium work.
