Assured Castings comes to mind. If you were a "problem employee",(complained about safety), they'd stick you on a die cast machine that spit like hell. Still have burn scars, lol. Many a friend lost fingers or more to that damned place. Cooper is kinda crappy, good pay if you can kiss ass hard enough. Hawkins Press was run by idiots, no loss there. Hard to say, that's why I'm self employed. LMAO all the way to the bank.

LOL! Yep, that was a very dangerous place to work. I worked there for about three years as a die cast machine operator and like yourself still have burn scars on my writs and hands and remember the "spitting" dies well. One time I spilled melted aluminum into my boot and the place on my foot where it settled burned about 1/4 inch deep. Had to do whirlpool therapy at the hospital everyday for a few weeks to get it to heal.
The worst I saw out there was the time a guy named Chris got both his hands stuck in a trim press when it just shut on him when he reached in to get the parts. Poor guy was stuck in it for about 10 minutes passing in and out from pain while they struggled to get it open. I think tin the end he ended up losing like 4 fingers total on both hands.
I had already left the place by the time Charles got burned so bad the time the hydraulic hose broke and it all caught fire when the fluid hit the furnace. As well as I remember THAT one made the Kingsport Times when it happened
That place SUCKED!

When I got canned from Where I Used To Work- I CAN'T mention the name of the place- I felt like I was in that old TV show from the '60s, "Branded" w/Chuck Connors...They broke his sword, pulled the buttons offa his uniform, & literally "drummed" him out..That was about the samne treatment I got, after working there 29 years-I got walked out to my car, couldn't tell anybody good-bye-and some of the people there I was REALLY close to-was told to come back that Saturday & clean out my desk & that was that. I was let go for "poor job performance", but they never really told me what I was doing wrong, nor what I could do to correct it. Morale there has gone from bad to terrible.

assuresd castings was an awful place to work. many people got hurt there and management talked a lot but safety was not a priority on the plant's "things to do" list.

i remember a man lost his arm when a faulty diecast machine closed up on it. this man had told the supervisors repeatedly about this issue but was in turn told to run it.

Yeah, that's what I hear, too...A couple of the people I worked with told me I was lucky to be outta there...It has gone from a place where at least you didn't mind coming in to work, to a place where seemingly most of them dread going in... That ain't no way to be. I knew it was oming for me, though..Last 6 months I worked there, I NEVER did anything right, they'd jump me over the least little things..Real Mickey Mouse stuff...They treated people like it was their 1st job out of McDonald's...Stayed on yr butt ALL the time...I miss the money, but I DON'T miss the stress...

I hate to say it, but if you were born into a position then loose that position due to 'poor job performance' looks like you could have seen the writing on the wall. They were out to get you from day one. That should been in the selling contract, that family got to keep their jobs. I remember you standing at the back of the building throwing barrell tops (or something like that) off the back, like a frisbee. Those were the days!!!! But in todays competetive work force everyone has to pull their load and sometimes someone elses. It just business. No emotion involved, just business, no loality infolved, just business.

a furnace broke and spilled molten metal onto the floor, releasing toxic smoke and fumes into the plant and the employees that had evacuated were reprimanded for leaving their machines. many of the employees had to go to the ER.

I worked at Assured for it's last 7 years. I have my burn scars like the rest. Management only cared about numbers, not people. Ever see a fan moved off a pale, hollow eyed die caster in 100 degree heat, just so it will cool the hot castings faster? Happened all the time. The die casters that had to be out for medical reasons, due to injures, were let go, no reasons were given, or crap was made up. Most accidents were preventable. Management found ways to cover their asses and lied about good workers but we knew which machines were closing for no damned reason and tried to pass the word. The last months were a living nightmare, we were terrified, someone would blow the furnace, out of spite. Most of us were so relieved it was over. What I don't get now is why so many people take this shit. Are we all that scared? Are we that desperate? One Mexican lost his fingers because of a missing guard, everyone but him knew about and he never cried out, and the boss would say later "You have a job here for the rest of your life son" WTF??? And you wonder why plants love illegals? As for Wally World? What is so bad about that place? Besides the wages and no benefits. Seriously, lets ditch some dirt that actually might help some folks, keep a finger or arm.

I'm assuming that you were a caster or trimmer. i worked on the machining side for 11 years so i know that every word you wrote is true. the only reason that i stayed till the end was because i had kids to think of. the steady paycheck and the day shift position kept me from trying to find another job. alot of my buddies there were in the same boat.

Yeah, & I tossed those ink lids off the back dock in what? 1975,'76,'77 ? Yeah, I guess I needed to be held responsible for EVERYTHING I ever did down there-Even if it was 30 some odd years ago...But you're right-they WERE out to get me. But why couldn't have they been upfront about things instead of being the chickenshit bestids they have shown themselves to be...I understand they've got several of the foremen up there on probation-if things don't improve, those guys are gonna get tossed out the door...Good men, who DON'T need to be treated like that. Sure, I got "born" into it, but I like to think what KEPT me there thru several regimes was my REAL job performance-not a bunch of vague "poor job performance" BS. BTW, last time I checked, they'd run thru at least 7 people that they'd hired to do my job. Another thing, I NEVER knowingly told the guys out on the floor a lie-unlike a lot of the rest of the office monkeys.

I worked there from 1987-1991 right after the 1st union vote as a die caster and Process Tech.

From what I have heard before and what you have said here it got even worse after my time there!
