Call your Tennessee State Representative and ask them to support HJR 704, HB 2622, HJR 722, HJR745, HB 3433, and HB 2417. These are bills would attempt to void the implementation and or implications of the Federal Healthcare Bill for those in Tennessee that wished to opt out. That's right, you can have a choice to be in or out of Obamacare. That is the American way.

Unfortunately federal law trumps state law, so all the states passing laws to limit the implementation of this legislation are wasting their time. Now a change to the state constitution has a more unique legal position than do state laws. I'm waiting for the day Obama dispatches troops to Nashville to take over the statehouse to enforce his laws. More likely to happen in Arizona or Texas, but that day is coming

Unfortunatly it's the wealthy that are fighting this. 18 million of the uninsured choose that route because they believe that they can afford what ever their health costs are out of pocket. Are you one of these wealthy sorts that can afford an unexpected 600,000 -1000000 dollar bill? That is the question for you to answer.

I am not wealthy. I pay $400 a month for $5000 deductible health insurance for me and my wife. I am being told it will double to pay for those illegals and those on welfare and their pre-existing conditions.
We have not been sick, and never taken OTC or prescription drugs for 20 years. My rates should be practically nothing.
Now we will be "averaged " into much higher rates to pay for some dumbass that has never taken care of his body, or just swam the Rio Grande.

Not only will there be no Medicaid coverage for undocumented aliens, they will not be allowed to even purchase insurance for themselves under the new bill.

This is interesting since currently state Medicaid does cover pregnancy costs for undocumented aliens. This is generally a good idea since their anchor babies will be US citizens under the US Constitution. A few hundred dollars in vitamins and doctors visits has vastly increased the health of these new americans. The alternative is to deny them this care, and have retarded and crippled children born for the US taxpayer to support for the rest of their life. That's all going away with Obamacare - now it will be illegal for states to publicly assist these pregnant women, and so we'll now get to support a bunch of crippled and retarded children. And of course there will be the extremely expensive emergency care provided for the additional premature births since emergency care can not be denied. So that will be a few million per child. We'll lose thousands of dollars for each penny we save.

In addition, under Obamacare it will also be illegal for state health workers to provide free Tuberculosis medication for the undocumented aliens with TB who pick your vegetables since americans are not willing to work for $3 a day doing this work. Now you'll get both the cheap vegetables you demand, and a dose of TB with them.

The 10th Amendment is what gives more weight to state constitutional changes than to state laws.

And if you have a green card you can get all the health care services of a born and raised US citizen. Of course, with a green card you don't have to pay any income taxes or FICA.

No. Residents with green cards pay both.

I read that only 3% of the illegals actually work in the farming industry. If they were replaced with $15 hr. pickers it would raise the price of your tomatoes less than a nickel a pound. The middle man makes the profit-and Wall Street speculators.

Observer-I cannot find the particular clause that exempts illegals from health care. Hint?

* Illegal immigrants are not eligible for Medicaid

* Illegal immigrants will not be allowed to buy health insurance in the exchanges -- even if they pay completely with their own money

By the way, they are still legally required to buy insurance. But they are legally not allowed to do so.

Hospitals are still required to treat illegal aliens in case of an emergency even if they have no way to pay for the services. I've not seen any language yet that exempts enrollment in Medicaid though.

Thanks-- any plans to make 20MM illegals legal? After all, the 40 million uninsured Americans # bandied about included all those illegals. Some pollsters found that there were really only about 11MM citizens who did not, and could not get health insurance.
Also, does this plan still not cover ~10 million citizens? Does it not decrease coverage for many old farts like myself if I decide to get on Medicare?

Does anyone really know? Other than saying they are going to cut $100 billion out of Medicaid while adding millions more, no one this side of the black hole knows what will happen. What do you think?

ONLY 11 MILLION AMERICAN CITIZENS, sounds like a small number UNLESS ONE OF THEM is a close friend or a family member. Perhaps we should put a face and a story to each one 11 million times because I find it appalling that ANYONE is in this position in this country. STOP spacetravel, STOP foreign aid, STOP policing and protecting the world, we can debate ANY AND ALL of these and a thousand more, but NOBODY will ever convince me that a SINGLE AMERICAN should have to lose a life's work and bankrupt themselves if they get sick. Be it 30 MILLION or 20 MILLION or 11 MILLION. ONE PERSON IS TOO MANY.

Don't worry, if you don't buy mandatory insurance and don't pay the fine to the IRS, the debt is treated like a tax debt so it won't be discharged in bankruptcy court. So you can't go bankrupt with government health care because they won't let you.

What I can discern from every answer you give,(and you are certainly not alone on here) is that 30 million or 20 million or 1 million or one American is not important enough to deserve help from our government (taxpayers). Why not just say that and get it over with. I have asked several posters how THEY wish to cover the uninsured, and I get the talking points that I could repeat verbatum, but the unsaid "elephant in the room" is that if it costs you any money, forget it. Well that is fine and I will stand up for your rights to say that, feel that way whatever, but picking apart a few sentences in this bill will not change the underlying problem. You do not want to spend one penny on the uninsured so say so. Couching outrage at the bill in the cloak of overreach of government rings hollow at this point.
Your priorities are just different from mine. I think those Americans deserve help if it costs me a little more and believe me I pay plenty already. Gotta go now and earn Uncle Sam and myself my daily bread.
