Actually, I know that both are good and smart men. We will not go wrong with either one of them.
However, this being said, I am absolutely supporting Phip Barrett. I know him and have great respect for him.
Why am I supporting him? I think that a few years ago, maybe two elections back, Barrett only lost by 5 votes. I witnessed Otis Munsey getting people to vote for Pierce in front of the voting machines in the community room of HEC. Like the next person to vote with a very hard sell. I listened to other directors, but within legal distances, putting very hard sells on to vote for Pierce and I still wonder why. I completely understand supporting your fellow directors and friends but I don't understand desperation pressure. Then, it has been alleged that Barrett was not a candidate in the last election because he was misinformed of the deadline for submitting the qualifying petion. I have not confirmed that with him directly.
I think Larry Elkins is one of the best of managers of eclectic cooperatives in the state and that HEC is one of better managed cooperatives.
However, it greatly brothers me how Pierce was elected maybe 8 years ago. Knowing Barrett well and knowing Pierce, I have been trying to figure out why it was so important for certain directors to oppose Barrett so strongly but without giving a single valid reason except Pierce was a long time director and friend. Statements like “do me a personal flavor and be sure to vote for my dear friend Jack Pierce. Jack is a long time director and the other fellow is a new comer who doesn’t have any experience on the board.” Then it when on and on.“You won’t let me down on this, will you?” Then, on and on with more "arm twisting". Why were they so afraid of new blood on the board? Then similar pressure in the Patterson and Munsey elections.

That's interesting information. There was a lot of talk then and now about the board working so hard to elect Pierce.

Maybe, just maybe it is because he is a good board member. The cooperative has been well run. They might want to keep the ability to do that. Why can't people stand prosperity?

I see that mrs britton is supporting Pierce,,,anyone she feels can make good financial or any management decisions can have my vote!!! I think NOT
That is America's problem you vote because someone you do not like is voting for them or you vote because you think you know someone. But what you ought to vote is what is best for your rates and whats best for our town. If you elect the new guy your electric bill will go up. You obviously do not know anything about OUR Coop if you are just voting for the other guy

I don't think people should be in offices or on boards forever. Two terms on anything is plenty enough. How long has Pierce been on that board?

DO YOU REALIZE.. That Holston Electric Cooperative has the 2nd LOWEST electric rates of all coopertives in the Tennessee Valley? That HEC ranks among the 10% of all electric cooperatives in the country in overall financial efficiency and stability? That board members should be able to understand the complex financial documents and issues they vote on because their decisions affect your electric rates?
DO YOU WANT... To continue the outstanding record of response and service that Holston Electric Cooperative is recognized for?
To keep a man working for you on the Cooperative's board of directors who has a degree in Economics & Accounting and recently retired fro his position as Vice-President of Finance at Alladin Plastics after 37 years?
Help keep a Qualified,Expereinced,Communit y-Minded Leader on the Holston Electric Cooperative Board of Diretors!!!!!!!!!! Typed by a concerened Citizen

How long has Pierce been on the board and how many decades has Elkins been chairman of the do-nothing Industrial Board?

They have been on the board for years. We should keep it the way it is. These Linemen are getting paid more than they should doing nothing and they want more and they want you to pay more out of your pocket! When will you people get it!

Speaking of paying, what is the total of Elkins' salary and benefits package? Isn't that public information and if it is, where can you find it? That's the pay we need to be concerned about.

Laughing out loud at where the Pierce signs are in Rogersville. They just might as well say "Elkins wants Pierce on the board."
