You don't need a public defender, as you don't have a criminal case, and you were not charged with a crime.

A good lawyer that deals well with child and family situations is Daniel Boyd across from the court house. Hope this helps

WELL WE HAD CHILD SUPPORT COURT LAST MONTH AND THE JUDGE TOLD ME I COULD GET A PUBLIC DEFENDER THAT DOES CUSTODY FOR CHILDREN ALONG WITH OTHER THINGS!! I CALLED AND THEY QUOTED ME 3000$ THAT WOULD TAKE ME A YEAR OR LONGER TO GET IT PAID FOR!! I PAY ALMOST 400$ A MONTH AND THAT TAKES HALF MY CHECK AND THE BAD THING IS I HAVE TO GO TO SULLIVAN COUNTY I WISH I WENT HERE!! THANKS SO MUCH!! I REALLY APPRECIATE IT ALOT!

If you're looking for a good lawyer in Kingsport, call any of these: Matt King, Whitney Taylor, Greg Francisco, Jason McLellan, or Todd Ross. Any of those guys are excellent lawyers. It will probalby be a little less expensive if you hire an "in town" lawyer versus someone from Rogersville, etc. Hope this helps.

You may be able to have a court appointed attorney to assist you, but Public Defenders are available only for criminal cases. Child support is not a criminal case.

$3000 is telling it like it is. A contested custody battle is going to cost you good money, and very likely will take a long time and be emotionally draining. You don't do your job for free, and neither do lawyers.

Is your case in Sullivan County or Hawkins County/Rogersville? Sometimes it's better if you get someone locally, they usually know the "ins and outs" of the local rules and the way the judges like things better than out of town lawyers. If you want to hire a Rogersville lawyer, that's fine but he/she will charge more due to the fact it's out of town. The price will include travel time, court time, etc.

No, but it ought to be. You would think that since failure to pay child support is a violation of Tennessee law, that it would be enforced. But here in Hawkins County, it isn't, unless you are drawing public aid. Then the D.A.'s office will be all over the deadbeat. If you're trying to support your child on your own, forgetaboutit. They won't do ANYTHING to enforce a child support order.

Amen! My divorce was 14 years ago and I have never seen one dime of support from my ex. I even signed up for public aid while working my way through college thinking that the State would go after him for child support but it never happened. Now I have a law degree and make more money than my ex so I'm not even worried about it any more. My son knows who provides for him.

If you only make 800 dollars a month, you probably shouldn't be having children.

I didn't mean to imply that you were a deadbeat. In fact, my reply was a little off-topic and I apologize.

I admire you for wanting to see your son and let him grow up knowing his other siblings. It is a crazy, unfair world. You shouldn't have to pay an attorney and court costs to get your visitation enforced. Surely some attorney would give you a free consultation, or maybe only charge you a couple hundred dollars (that's a standard rate,$200/hr) to talk with you and write your son's mother a fact-of-life letter: either agree to visitation or she will in court telling the judge why. Good luck to you.

Never go to Buddy Baird for any reason whatsoever. He will eat you and your money up to your face but do absolutely nothing on your case!
