Who should be commended for the best Yard of the Month??? I work very hard to keep my property looking attractive for my neighborhood.... but I have a few neighbors who work harder than me. Therein... maybe I should say.... who has the most attractive neighborhoods?

I am just happy if my neighbor mowes his yard.... picks up his trash... and sprays for spiders. Sorry Dale.... but I bet no one else posts on this post.... this site seems full of druggies.... and pill bashers. If you have a nice yard... you have a lost art.... sign of the times dude.

This like the "Redneck yard of the week" on Blue Collar TV?

How about an "EYESORE OF THE MONTH" award? Give it to lazy sumbiches that are able bodied but wont mow and refuse to clean up the trash and junk out of their yards. Carve the winning trophy out of petrified cow sh!t and engrave their names on it. At the end of the year the annual Fred Sanford Memorial Award can be presented to the overgrown and or trash filled yard that drives the neighbor's property values down the most.

Same here except for the spiders. I'd rather deal with spiders than some of the "neighbors" that I've had to suffer with through the years though.

I don't know who lives in Truman DeBord's old house on Hwy 11.... but always have a nice yard....Ed Hagood too. That whole subdivision always looks so tidy. There are also several nice places on main street..... Rogersville down town is as pretty as a picture!

The White House has the best yard. You know Obama and Michele do all their own yard work. That's all they have done. Just wish he would stop burying His cigrettes butts in the Rose Garden.

I actually was raised in a small town that awarded a Yard of the Month.... A picture of their yard was featured in the local newspaper and a sign placed in the yard... This kept more folks motivated to have nice yards.... it was a nice topic for the local diners and bragging rights for Wednesday night pot lucks at church. Maybe the Chamber of Commerce is taking note and makes this a new adventure. Would cost them all of five dollars for a sign... and maybe motivate more folks to keep better yards.... Motivation for more people to take more pride in their homes and property.... The Chamber will just have to make sure that they chose a committee that rewarded hard work and just not the price tag on the house. they would have to be reminded that small homes would be rewarded too.. there are alot of smaller and older homes in Rogersville that are kept very clean and tidy.... for instance... Gale Carpenter has a very neat and tidy yard.... maybe He would be a good candiate for the first Yard of the Month sign.... On Hwy 11w the yard belonging to Mike Lee's parents is very appealing.... Anyway.... I think my idea is fabulous.... I would much rather be on topics being productive with a good idea instead of ninety nine precent of the trash talk.... What do you think???

There is an award given each month to a residence and a business. I have seen the signs and it has been in the Review. The Main Street committee does it.

See.... you have missed my point.... award individuals with actual homes.... It is nice that a Cemetery is given the award.... You called it the Beautification Award..... I am talking about "Yard of the Month".... criterion.... Reward that property owner who takes pride in their own yard by keeping it neat... tidy... groomed and easy on the eye.... I brought my first home solely based on the landscaping.... it was the first thing I saw when viewed from the road. A nice landscaped and neat yard does wonders for the values of homes and neighborhoods.... how does a Beautifican award that goes to a Cemetery benefit the value of that property.... sure... it shows repect to those their laid to rest.... but how does it improve it's property value or tax base or resale value.... Yes... maybe I would like to be buried in a nice looking cemetery... but one getting a beautification award ..... I am just talking about simply rewarding those that get their butts up on Saturday mornings and have the motivation to keep their properties looker nice..... Better to reward those with a simple sign in their yard to help keep us motivated!!! A simply reward goes a long way with some folks!!!

They do award someone for their yard along with a business. Two awards per month. Been doing it for a year. Maybe longer.
