Definitely not a controled fire. Unknown how many acres have burnt. It's a pretty big forrest fire. It's been burning a few days now & still spreading.

Your best bet is to call your local police dept for current and dependable updates.

Around mile marker 12, just west of LakeView Grocerie, there is a group of new-ish campers facing the highway. SOMEONE,,, that has cleared a large piece of mountain side up near the base of Short Mountain has the West Side of that particualar tract cleared. Allegedly they set out to burn a small pile of scrub that had been cleared off. Obviously, it's out of control. It has topped and crossed over to the Cloud Creek Side, however favorable NNE breezes helped last night. Forestry does not want to put a dozer up there (and there are logging roads there) because they don't seem to think it's dangerous enough yet, and "To Steep". I would hope landowners collect themselves to see if this warrants a class action lawsuit, not to mention the damages, that beautiful drive is now a scar on Hawkins County Roadways. The Forestry Division knows, of the Logging Roads that could put them up there, but it's cheaper to let it burn than to put it out with water tankers called in from who knows where.

I'm nervous. The fire looked like it was just on the other side of Short Mtn. Trucking. We live on Moore rd, and that puts the fire very close to our 'front yard'. Hope it dies out :(

Just came back from Morristown along 11W. The fire is on the South facing side of Short mountain from SMS almost to Lakeview Grocery. There were a whole bunch of firefighters pulling out from the boat dock at the church headed to the fire. Down in the parking lot is command central. They have a few tanker trucks and some dozers on hand. The fire seems to be burning the dry leaves and under brush. Any body who burns at this time of year needs their head examined.

From our front porch on the north-eastern side of Rogersville, Short Mountain has always looked like a distant dormant volcano. Last night with the ring of fire literally all the way around (from our perspective) and a huge plume of smoke rising into the sunset, it looked like it was erupting! Later the crescent moon turned red-orange from the smoke in the atmosphere. It was quite a spectacle. If I lived near there, I would be so worried about my house. Hope it's out soon.

Just heard this from a friend there

Two local firemen were killed when the vehicle they were in tumbled down the mountain.
They are waiting till they can find the families before announcing anything because they do not want family members driving up there to check on their loved ones.

WJHL and WBIR TV crews are there now.

We should be praying for those in the area instead of insulting words. GOD help all those that are in harms way. They have to be scared and stressed. I'm going to pray for all concerned.

My house is up Galbraith Springs Rd. Forestry is running a backfire now, main fire is a few hundred feet from the house. I've got a bug out bag in the truck, and am about to pull the plug on this computer and haul it out.
The fire has jumped another line. This win isn't helping much.
