what was the reason for his dismissal??

He was accused by a local prominent businessman of having a relationship with the businessman's wife. The businessman used his local connections to pressure the police department into firing the officer. The officer and the wife both deny the relationship. The relationship seems to be local gossip without substantiation. The officer is hoping that the fact that his firing was based on false accusations should be relevant. The city attorney is presenting the position that Tennessee is a "right to work" state and employers are allowed to hire and fire anyone at will, without without cause. Therefore, in the city's opinion, it is not relevant that he was fired for reasons that were fabricated, all that is relevant is there is no police union or labor agreement and therefore they can legally do as they wish and workers have no rights. Which is true. So he'll have to suck it up basically. Business as usual, since this is the sort of society we want to live in, one in which there are no bad unions protecting labor rights.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Hammonds filling in for Hawkins County's finest men who are either mentally absent (like Stewart) or simply away due to incarceration (like Taylor).

it makes me sick when people cant have a discussion about anything without falling back on the bible which has absolutely nothing to do with the way our city and county is , would , or should be run . if you FEAR god , you should find another religion ! our leaders cater to certian families . 40 years of sells pulling favors and scatching backs has stagnated rogersville .

What if they're found guilty since Nelson is a law officer, wasn't supposed to be taking part in the election, yet took people, while on duty, INCLUDING ROGER STEWART, to the polls and HELPED THEM VOTE?

Guilty of what? Talking to a law officer about an election and taking people to vote while on duty...WOW...corruption at its finest. Call in the FBI, the TBI, maybe even the CIA. Some people amaze me with the ridiculous things they say.

to really have someone think they tried to pressure them on how to vote, sure the civil rights issue would surface....but then again when did that really become a concern here.

Check Tennessee Law before you spout off your piehole. It's ILLEGAL for a police officer to participate in politics while on duty. Including taking someone to the polls to vote. Chief Nelson violated the law. Period, end of sentence.
