TOTAL LOSS! That would really say something about the fire department right NEXT DOOR..
Think about the house in Surgoinsville last year. It was RIGHT next door to firehall, only couple feet away.

Was that a volunteer fire department with an empty building or a paid station.... my guess is if happened in Surgoinsville it was volunteers. if you people in Surgoinsville would get off your lazy lying butts and pay your takes then maybe you could afford to have PAID volunteers. Until then stop your complaining and grow up and be a BIG city like New York. that way when another nine eleven happens and the firemen and women run into collapsing buildings to save people's lives then... just then will we remember. Dang... is everybody in East Tennessee this stupid.... Remember is...

Hey David, if they are paid dumbarse, they wouldn't be volunteers would they now?

Surgoinsville residents need to pay their take? Wth is that genius?

Also Dave, it is Surgoinsville. They have less than 1500 people. Hardly, a big city. No worries though, they bought a big fire department. You know, further away from town. Guess that gives them an excuse now, huh.

It really is amazing to read these comments. The first volunteer fire truck arrived in 6 minutes according to the time of dispatch in the paper. I looked to see when I received a call to look outside & it was 5:24 & I walked out & the first truck was responding. The garage end of the house was already engulfed and spread quickly. I praise those firefighters for doing what they could.

My husband is a volunteer for Striggersville and they responded within 2 minutes of the dispatch. Cosidering there was a fire hydrant...THAT WASN'T HOOKED UP....the fire depts had to spray and then come back to Rville to fill tankers back up with water! We live outside Striggersville and heard the dispatch at 5:25.....he was there by 5:30 and worked the fire until midnight then got up to go to work today! Quit bashing our volunteers! If anything they should ALL be paid! Rogersville City does so why not everyone else? I mean really....how many calls does RCFD get called on?

Just over minimum wage. The volunteers are own their own time and dime. Get real... these volunteers devote themselves to the service of the community. Don't forget they loose time away from the own families and their own hobbies to benefit our community. Also remember each and every time they answer a call they are also risking their own lives in order to save others. thank you volunteers!

Hummmm... not so sure I believe this. But even at fifteen dollars no body is getting rich.... unless they hit the lottery...one in thousands of billions get lucky with that.! But since you know so much tell me this.... How often does the Rogersville City Fire Department answer calls? And if they do answer calls do they charge for those calls???? If people have an emergency and they call for an ambulance then they later receive a bill for that 911 charge.... is it the same when you use the Rogersville City Fire Department??? So.... when volunteer fire departments get a call and respond... what keeps them from billing too???? You got me on a goose chase... what then stops someone on the PAID departments from setting fires themselves... Let's say I owne property in the city that is vacant.... But yet a brush fire happens... Then if the city comes in and puts out the little burning match.... Can i expect a bill?

I have a friend that is in Rogersville fire dept. and that is not his full time job. So they must not get paid much if any.

That's right, let's start bashing someone else here and hiding behind a computer. Come on folks, grow up and act like adults here. Ok here are some real facts for you. First of all, hydrants were inherited by Rogersville water dept. from the Striggersville utility. Not installed by Rogersville. Second, the number of calls a fire department gets is public record. Go ask for it since you want to know so badly. Third, No one gets paid overtime for being on the Rogersville Fire dept. either. That was the rumor for years but it's not true. Truth is that all of the departments do the best they can with what they have. Some have more than others. Some answer more calls, some have more trucks. Some have more members, Who cares?? Bottom line is these folks do one hell of a job to protect us all and ask for nothing in return. then someone gets on here and hides behind computers and wants to try to degrade them. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.
