Is this a worthy cause? Aren't people supposed to stand on their own two feet in this 'every man for himself' Tea Party society instead of looking for handouts? Is the housing authority manager a bah-humbug scrooge witch? Does this family deserve our help?

Did you read the article? It's not like they have never worked and have been living on gov. assistance for years. They moved there in February. They have had an extremely rough couple of years, that I don't wish on anyone. Maybe with a little help they can get back on their feet. If you don't want to help then don't. But, there are some people that understand that could be them one day and will help if they can.

The housing authority supose to be for poor people. So, they are going to evict them? The manager has to be some kind of evil witch to say even if they came up with the money she said they were still eviting. Thats a true meaning of how this town is changing.I cant imagine being in that situation

She did. She got picked up by either Sullivan County or Kingsport City for shoplifting back in the summer also. I want to feel sorry, I really do. However, I am having a hard time doing so. I know the family. They didn't start out like this.

Funny, they came up with money when they really needed in the form of bail. Why was legal troubles not addressed?
Both parents could do something to provide got those kids! They are not completely disabled. They were able to stand up and smile for the camera. They look like they are plenty able to feed themselves.

It makes me feel bad for the kids, though. They can't help what their parents do.

I will be the first to agree. I would give all I have to the kids but the parents need to step up and take responsibility.
I would be willing to help the parents IF they were trying to help themselves, which they clearly are not.
Am good friends with another family that lost their house last year and have five kids, so that is no excuses. That family rebounded with Gods help through hard work, perseverance and prayers & no hand outs.

I no Chad & Amanda well. No excuse for this. They should b ashamed of thworsened. I can't believe Times News put this in their paper without checking a few things first. Their money goes towards pills. Yes that is why she lost her job. She also did get caught shoplifting & did get arrested. They were stealing pain meds off of family. Why didn't the newspaper ask them what they did with the money the insurance paid them after their house fire. I no where it went. Up their nose. They had enuff to buy a home. They put their needs before their kids. Shame on them. I no there r ppl out there who really need help but Chad & Amanda did this to theirself. DCS probably should step in. Help the kids not the parents.

Maybe Insurance could have been on their side also. It's also hard to even find work.

If it involves your kids and their future, you do what it takes. Work flipping burgers, cleaning toilets, bagging groceries... Whatever it takes.
They were fortunate enough to secure public housing, probably and undoubtably public assistance such as tenncare and food stamps. Yet, they did not fulfill that small obligation.
And yes the other family had insurance as most responsible people do.
Again it goes back to protect your investment, whether your house or your kids.
Can only lay down and use an excuse for so long, such as the house burning down and illness.
Other have been through far worse and are still suffering but do for themselves.
KTN and Shepard center seems not to have done enough research about their situation.

Which brings me to another thought, shepards center TURNED down helping the other family since they did have insurance. It was their darkest hour and they need simply a change of clothes since everything was lost.
They were told it was Shrpard center policy not to help those who had insurance.
Such irony..

These poor children are at the mercy of there poor pathetic parents! Chad is addicted to pills and so is Amanda ! She is not disabled and she had to surrender her nursing license due to the state catching her doing fraudulent activity at 3 separate jobs that she got fired from and she had no choice . There are plenty of other people that need help more than these. These children need to be given to a foster family that would take good care of them and give th the love they deserve and when that is done, put chad and Amanda's ass on the streets ! Quit enabling this family to live off of everyone's money cause they can work just as much as the next person.

How about Chad, did you read that he was arrested for ID theft just this October!!! It was in the Rogersville Review and the Tri-Cities Busted....Wonder what Sheldon Livesay thinks about that? Maybe he can let them rent the house he has on Main Street....Start his own homeless shelter!

They had their day in court back in November. Doesn't S. Livesay believe in the justice system of Hawkins County or the ruling of Judge Ross!!! Chad was there, he admitted that he owed the money..he knew he had ten days left. Maybe he knew he could get his old buddy Shelton to bail him out....A wise man told me once anyone can do things in the name of our Lord, but that doesn't make it right.

I agree! This family needs help, regardless of what brought them to the situation they are in. Jesus would have forgiven and helped... If you are on here bashing this family, shame on you; especially if you propose to be a Christian. God is Love, and he expects us to help others. What a person does with the help you give them, is between them and God. Remember, God knows our hearts. Maybe he wants to see what our reaction to this situation is. Maybe he's disappointed and disgusted with your judgment of these people and your lack of generosity. Everybody has to start somewhere to get back on the right track. I wish this family the very best!

Here we have another example of druggies being a dreg on society......I say LET EM DIE LET EM DIE LET EM SHRIVEL UP AND DIE ...(come on every one in the tune of let it be) and before you start telling what a baaaad person I am WWJD??? This is what jesus would do******READ 2 Thessalonians 6 thru 12*****???. This includes you Sheldon, Melinda and that long haired pervert freak you got running around there. If he can't control and run his own home/children how in hell is going to be able to help ne one else with there's?.....By the way the article says to write checks to quote..."The Homeless Fund" not specifically to the Hortons or help the hortons or The Homeless Fund for the Hortons. Ya wanna know why?? Its because if you make your check payable to The Homeless Fund and not specify the Hortons or ne one else they can use it for whatever and whoever they want. Its interesting that every year at this time they come up with a story of this sort. Hmmmmmm..........wonder how long this post will be here????
