Any kid can go to the city school that lives in the county. The only way they get in is by paying $400 or so tuition and being put on the waiting list. All kids in the city have first priority. They have to see how many kids drop out of city and how many spots they have before they will choose kids that live in the county. I know from a source that there were only 4 spots in the 1st grade open to county kids. Of you want to complain about your kid not going to city school than move to the city.

I live in the city and my child goes to the city. I think you've missed the whole point of this conversation.

City schools are better. If my schedule would allow it, I'd have my kids in city schools in a heartbeat. I've thought that eventually I'll be able to do it, but by then they will probably be so far behind the kids who have gone to city schools all their lives that it would just be an embarrassment to all parties involved. The county is poor. If more people had jobs then it wouldn't be so bad. The elementary schools don't even have after school programs. Why? Because not enough people have jobs to make use of them. It's a crappy situation for people who actually work hard and pay taxes. I don't blame anyone who lives in the county and sends their kids to city schools. They're fortunate to be able to do so.

Maybe that's exactly the reason she doesn't want her family being in the school system. You have colleagues knowing your personal business, etc. Besides, it's her GRANDCHILDREN...not her children. I don't know about you, but my parents have no say in where I choose to send my children to school.

I know a lot of medical professionals who work for MSHA and will not have procedures performed at a MSHA facility. Same goes for Wellmont employees.

To put it in simple terms, maybe she doesn't crap where she eats.

Why did she put the child in the city school? What do the JRP and HE teachers think of it? What does the HC BOE think of it? This was the talk of the town this past weekend.

who cares???? It's the parents business not the town. All of you need to get a life and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing.

Maybe the child's parents went there and they want him to attend their alma mater. Maybe their babysitter lives close and it would be more convenient. Maybe they don't want to deal with jealous people complaining about favoritism every time he makes a good grade or if he makes a spot on the team. And maybe it's none of anyone's business.

I know she runs the county system. My statement was to the people talking about them living in the county or city. It doesn't matter if you live in the county. You can still go to the city. You just have to be excepted.

It's the whole county's business that the director of the county school system asks the city school to enroll one of her family members.

It is my belief that the parent of the child made the decision about where the child would attend school-not the Director, who is the grandparent. In any case, this is not the county's business, the city's business, or the business of any person who resides in Rogersville or Hawkins County except the child's parents. Some people have too much time on their hands and too little information about the situation. I made the decisions concerning my children's education, the doctors they went to, the church they attended, and the way they were disciplined. I suspect that is the case for most people posting. Give this a rest!

Each of these statements is incorrect, especially the second one. When the head of the county school system asks the city school to enroll one of her family members, she can expect to be asked to address the matter. Check your own facts.
