excuse me, "what" have you done?![/QUOTE]
I am not the one who went around promising all these wonderful things for votes. Seems funny once elected the politicians seem to just clam up and hide from problems. Not a single peep in the papers . Not audits? no corruption clean up, just more tote the line and screw the citizens huh? How about the Mayor post the total real amounts including fuel and such the industrial board has spent compared to how many jobs they have brought directly to Hawkins county . How much money has been "donated" to the NON-Profit organizations in the county ? Including funds sent and spent in the city? Why is there a single school, with a full administration in the city anyway? With less than 5000 people there is no way they can afford that alone. What grants have been applied for thru the county for improvements in say Roads, Parks, Schools, Fire depts, Law enforcement or anything else? What incentives does a company have to move here, or start up here? What has the county done to force the clean up of run off from the dump? We see taxes raised year after year, yet not one thing here is better. Its worse. Our fine Mayor didn't even have the guts to fight the outlandish property appraisals. Everyone knows that was a huge load of bullsh!t. What infrastructure improvements have we seen? I am just asking for one single thing that has been done , that has made Hawkins county a better place to live that I payed taxes for? What has our fearless leader proposed to the county commission to improve our quality of life here?

88 million in debt, over 2 grand owed by every man woman and child in the county . The county can only service the intrest on debt. That means they can't pay off the debt but have to continue to pay the interest payments forever. There is only two choices now. The county can embrace massive growth and change, or borrow as much as possible and run like hell after fileing bankruptcy. Whats going to be cut? Teachers? Cops? County workers? Benifits? How about we start with cutting the Mayors pay and everyone working there to one dollar until the office is solvent. What? Don't think for one minute they wouldn't kick you out of your home if you owed a tax bill. Does anyone currently in politics here have the guts to clean up the place? Does any politician have the guts to piss off the local click and do whats right for a change? Can't one elected official go on the record with a real plan to fix this mess?

All we need to do is ignore our debt like the federal government and keep spending beyond our means everything will be alright. Prosperity is just around the bend. I always put my trust a higher power, referring of course to local, state, and federal government.Remember the way to happiness with government is to trust and obey.

2000 dollars per person, how does it work out if you just count property owners? After all we are the ones left holding the bag.If the economy gets a lot worse the only way for the county to increase revenue is to raise land taxes.Land taxes are the only taxes guaranteed by really "real" estate.

Well the best I can figure is it will cost 11,000.00 approxmately per individual property. Some folks own many properties, so its tough to figure it out real close. Some properties have tax breaks while others have a diffrent rate and so forth. But hypothetically if every property paid in 11k the debt would be retired, less interest. Add in interest at say 4% and it would raise about 250 dollars a year per property. There are ways to raise revenue generation here. The only problem is cutting out the corruption and back door deals that hinder growth and improvements. The people in charge would actually have to work and do their job for it to happen. So...it won't happen until ..........well it just won't happen with who is in office. That includes all offices, not just Mels. We will have to vote out all of the offices and pretty much start from a negative to rebuild the county . The sad part is , it has to happen in the city of Rogersville also.

I own five properties so I guess my part of Hawkins County debt would be $55,000.00. It seems that every level of government refuses to be financially responsible. People demand, politicians provide, and the next generation is screwed by our selfishness.
