How about people unfamiliar with unions? Can they get hired and registered ? And hopefully get a postion helping with the construction?

No, you have to belong to one of the unions to get hired. I am 99% this is true. My husband isnt here right now for me to ask. But im sure this is correct.

Keep believing that one. The job will be contracted out , then sub-contracted from there. The union has no promises of work from tva at all.Nothing is on paper. Over 7000 construction workers out of work locally and they want you to go thru a knoxville union to work , what a joke. The county should enforce the 50 % local ( with in 50 mile ) rule on employees. There is plenty of concrete, heavy equipment , carpenters , electricians , and plumbers here. How much you want to bet the do the same thing they did in Alabama and let the subs bring in illegals. They play stupid and say talk to the contractor , contractor says its not his place to check if they are illegal and the subs don't care because no one will do anything. Welcome to America dummys.

Yes what I said earlier was right. You do have to join one of the unions before you can work there. The Local #50 is the Carpenters Union. It is in Knoxville. The #818 is the Laborers Union. I think its in Knoxville also.I HOPE THIS HELPS!

Electricians, pipefitters, ironworkers, boilermakers, laborers, operators are all union members. go thru a hiring hall if you need a job. Union is a way of life not a paycheck.

I'm not against the union. I have just been on the last two jobs with tva and seen it. The boilermakers and electricians were union and a few form carpenters. The concrete guys , and most of the labor were spanish. The crane guys were paid scale and so were the heavey equipment , but they were not union either . How many union guys got work in the kingston clean up?
