I think that food city should get rid of some of the employees they have that are nothing but dead weight.......( not talking about you here donna)
everytime i go in to shop, there are like about at least 5 cashiers just standing around doing nothing, but popping gum, talking to each other and boys coming in the store then they argue who is gonna wait on me. this is outrageous. today, i observed the manager ( roudy) just watching these people what did he do, not a thing..........if it was me, i would get them a rag, and let thim dust the shelves..........some of the people are hard workers and always courteous, but for the others, GET A JOB SOMEPLACE ELSE!!

I worked for Food City for 9 years and let me tell you this since you don't know. That is the front-end managers job to take care of the front (that includes the cashiers) that is what a front-end managers job is. Roudy's job is to manage the store which he does wonderfully.

Are you paying these workers at Food City? If not, then why do you care? Just be thankful they didn't layoff these people until the new store is built.

Thanks for including me there rog-vegas-woman, with that I mean you weren't talking about me. I'm on vacation right now anyway. With them not laying us off, expecting more business at the store on 66, the cashiers were instructed, I understand, to wait for the customers to come up front, with every register going, that is 9 registers there, there isn't enough customers for all of the cashiers. Granted, they could be cleaning something, I fully agree with you, but they are doing what they are suppose to do. I'm a cashier a couple of days a week and I really love to get the large orders, it's so much more fun than the small orders. I have been with Food City 8 years come July 30th and I love my job, but the position that I had at my store on main street isn't essential for 2 5 days a week at the store on 66. I dearly loved my postition and I hope to keep it when we return. I don't know if I will get to or not though.

WELL..........I GUESS IT IS ONES OWN OPINION, BUT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SITUATION......I AM GLAD THAT THEY DID NOT LAY OFF THE PEOPLE, BUT WHEN I WORKED THERE, YOU COULD NOT CHEW GUM ON FRONT, AND THE CUSTOMER ALWAYS CAME FIRST..........YES, I DID WORK AT FOOD CITY TWICE, IT IS A GOOD WORKPLACE, BUT STILL TOO MANY PEOPLE JUST STANDING AROUND THAT COULD BE MORE PRODUCTIVE SOMEPLACE ELSE, LIKE CLEANING, OR HELPING STODK

I get very good service from the Food City in Church Hill and manage to find some choice bargains in the meat department early on Friday evenings. They had some great pork shoulder roasts for 69 cents a pound. We bought 3 of them to drop in the freezer.

The men and women there treat customers with respect and are helpful. I don't see anybody there standing around and/or goofing off.

Its not the employees fault that the other store is being renovated. Yes there are a lot of them there but most had to take a major cut in hours to keep their jobs. And no they shouldn't get a job someplace else because of a corporate decision to rebuild their store. That is just preposterous!

Guys, these 'kids' need to work somewhere, so I don't have a problem with them standing around talking etc. just as long as I get good service when I need it. That's what counts. I have always got good service at FC. Rowdy is a doll. Have know him for a very long time. He is a good man, father, husband and store manager.

I heard through some locals that Food City has done horrible things to alot of good people. From what I hear that place is really high on prices and they treat employees BAD. I also heard that they say everyone is replacable and they could care less about Rogersville or the people working there.Somebody who had family working with them said they pay the employees poverty level wages and it doesn't matter how long they have worked there.

When I worked for food city they were very good to me. The pay was a little above average for a retail job and I got regular raises and advancement based on my performance. There were a lot of people who had a job with them that didn't want to work for a living. They had people who called in sick all the time or showed up late. Maybe that's the ones they don't care less about. I know I didn't care for them.

Well, I for one love Food City! I'm a loyal customer, I miss the one on Main Street and am looking forward to the new store opening. Food City can be a little high on some items, but I wouldn't dream of buying meat anywhere else, ever! The employees are always nice and helpful.

Yeah, Roudy does a great job. He needs to chew on the front end manager for the cashiers and baggers. I worked at FC back in the 90's while in high school and on weekends/holidays while in college. I worked at the Eastgate location. We were never allowed to just stand around and gab like the kids are doing now. If we were caught standing around, we were given a job very quickly. After a while, you find something to do when there is not a rush.

I will be thrilled when Food City opens up again in town. I like shopping there a lot better than at Walmart. Also, I agree with Julie, the quality of their meat products are much better than walmart.

I believe you! Years ago, one of my first jobs was in a meat department in Kingsport. Back then, stores were closed from Saturday eveing until Monday. We would go in on Monday morning and pull the chicken and pork that were out of date. Oh gosh, the smell of old chicken and pork! If it smelled ok, it was rewrapped and dated new. If not, it was thrown into the grinder with the meat to make burgers. Ever get a pack of hamburger and it turn brown the next day?
Back then, a person could bring in deer, pork or beef to have it cut up and/or ground. People did not usually get all their meat back.
I think things have changed some now. Can't take deer meat into a grocerie store. ;) Who knows what we are eating now? I don't think the FDA knows either.

I love Food City. I didn't even read this post. I don't care what it says. I love Food City. There was a lady that brought me some vegetables out of her garden the other day. Well, there was a squash in it that I wasn't "SURE" if I liked. IF I LIKE IT~~!!~~ I should be flogged. There are people out there who are starving and maybe "I don't like." Whatever you say against Food City, it is not good. They BRING the food in here that goes on most of our tables right now. I will miss the one on 66 but I will go to the new one, just like everyone else here.

leave food city alone and let them go through the growing pains in peace. it will be awesome when they get the new one done. this little town is lucky that they didn't pull out and leave us with the "giant of all" for a grocery store in town.
