I agree that as large as the county is, it would be efficient to have a place for storing equipment on that end, too. But I would like to see an appraisal done to make sure the selling price is realistic.

I'm thankful they paved my road but it was paved a month ago but already has pot holes. They didn't have enough sense to replace old tiles. Shame

If the roads were actually being repaired then yeah I would see no issue with this, but they aren't so don't waste more taxpayer money or find something way cheaper.

Buying What Land, For What Reason? If The County Is Going To Run A Road Across A Citizens Property, Then Yeah, TheY Should Be Paid For Losing Their Land. Eminent Domain May Mean The County Can Take Your Land, But It Doesn't Mean They Can Take It Without Paying For It.

If it involves spending tax payer's (that's me and every other tax payer) money then that makes it all of our's business. We have a right to voice our opinion as to how the County spends this money.

I don't think the County should be spending that money for land to build another garage. Maybe instead they could spend the money to pay a few more workers and get these roads repaired and repaved. Honestly I can't think of any substantial impact Lowell Bean has done for this County during his 2 terms. At least Jones paved every gravel road in the County.

CUDOS TO THIS STATEMENT. I wonder how many ppl realise that the county highway fund receives OVER HALF OF THE PROPERTY TAXES collected and for what compared to years past. Too many crooks running things and too many ignorant pplthat believe anything they hear instead of looking at the facts before voting these jackasses into offices.

It ain't a great deal if you don't need it. And because we the people don't see a need to spend taxpayer money for something we don't need don't make us stupid. Voting a person into office that don't know how to do the job and then voting him in for a second term, well I guess that makes some people kinda stupid. Glad to say I'm not one of them.

How much property are they talking about and what all would it be used for? If it is only to store equipment for convenience then they shouldn't need that much space. Surely the county could get some land that has been repo'd for a lot lower price. Wasn't there an article this spring that the mowing would be cut short this year because flood damage had already eaten up half of the budget? How would Bean justify buying a parking lot so they don't have to drive cross county when they can't afford their basic purpose? If this topic is true,$120k sounds like someone has a friend or family member that needs a little cash. If ever a place needed an over sight committee it is Hawkins Co.
I say at most he could use some of the black top he doesn't use on our roads to lay a parking slab along side one of the counties dumps. But then again I didn't vote for Bean because I am not influential (aka my road gets no attention either), I really hope there is a term limit for Rd commissioner.

I would be ok with county buying land if roads was in better shape and Mr. Bean didn't contract over 200, 000 or more dollars to local business because Mr. Bean himself told my friend that he had no operators that knew anything. Funny thing is that most men has been there 20 to 30 yr and Bean has been there 8. But according to him they know nothing. But they do keep getting him elected by working their butts off for him. Why don't Bean stop asking for land and actually do a better jobs with the roads?

Sweetie let me try to explain it to you. I'll break it down very simple for you because you are blonde. The land is not being purchased to build a road. Bean wants the land to put equipment on and act as a second base of operation for the road crew. I do think for myself please don't make me have to think for you too.

Oh poor cry baby got mad when it was brought out on him in the meeting lastnight. Cry baby Bean! Thank you Charlie Newton for standing up and trying to stop useless spending. We don't need land when schools are everywhere. Use their land.

It sure is surprising in the meeting last night how Charlie Newton voted against the property and in the road committee meeting he was all for it. Of course that is not the first time a commissioner has voted one way in committee and another in commission meeting. If this land will speed up services in the east end of the county as stated then go for it.
