Good thing the men in blue stopped them. Who knows, New Mexico today might have been a slave state. That was the True evil of the Confederate States. How anyone could fight for such an evil is beyond me.

Many in the Confederacy fought for states rights not slavery.Slavery was not abolished in the Union at the start of the Civil War but sometime after Lincoln "abolished" it in the Confederacy.
Remember that slavery was enshrined in the US Constitution.

The Civil War was the defining moment for the nation. The fact that the Confereracy was defeated and the union preserved was the single most important event in our history.

As a writer of local history in the Adirondacks of New York State, I just wanted to mention how much I enjoy Marc Simmons' columns in the online editions of the paper. In just a few short paragrpahs he can catch your attention and you are with him, line by line, right to the end of the column. Someone should publish an anthology of his columns, perhaps as a benefit to the local historical societies.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Virgo

If the December sales are calling you, you'd better work out a budget before you leave the house. Otherwise, you'll be tempted to use your credit card first and only consider the cost of your purchase later on. Even so, you could track down some great bargains now, provided you don't get carried away and buy items that you don't really want simply because you're astonished by the amount of money you'll save in buying them. But you'll save even more money if you don't buy them!
