DNR confirms cougar in UP, Oct. '09. Anyone ever seen one near Onaway?

Have never seen one, but have found tracks on my family's property once. About 5 years ago, one killed a horse out on 68.

I thought I saw one maybe six or seven years ago in my yard just outside of Tower. It was at night and I was backing up my car. As I looked through the rear-view mirror I saw an animal that was a yellowish color. I thought it may have been a dog but the tail was way too big. It was a bushy tail. A week before that my grandpa said he saw one cross the road in the same area. I live just a mile east of where the cougar killed the horse.

That "cougar" incident wasn't a cougar at all, it turned out to be a scam. The horse had some terrible abscess or something, and the owner never called a vet. I think there were charges pending against the owner for cruelty/neglect.

all I know is that the cougar is listed as an endangered species in Michigan and if I saw one in the woods, it would remain an endangered species.

Are you trying to say the Lupu's put a bunch of scratches on the carcus to make it look like a cougar??? I think maybe you have been scammed.
