First off you should ask the opinions of the West Roane county citizens as this is not just a Rockwood High school it is a Roane County High School. And our Football program is fine it just has a few injuries and small details to deal with right now.

Your absolutely right about the education part. I was just wondering what others thought about our boys this year. I think they played their hearts out Friday against Kingston even tho we lost it was a VERY good ballgame

And I agree 100% about our boys playing their hearts out. A LOT to be proud of.

What will it matter in five yrs about this yrs football program? Getting a degree in something is what is important in the long run. Too much is put into sports programs. Tell someone 10 yrs from now that you played football or was a cheerleader in high school and see the response you get. Didn't get you very far did it?
And I have to ask "How many coaches does Rockwood have? 500?

If it gets them into college when they might not have been able to afford otherwise....it matters......off the top of my head i can think of 3 former Tigers playing football somewhere....2 of which might not have gone to college at all if not for football.....2 others had football offers but chose their baseball offers instead....granted,it's unlikely any of them will make it to the pro's so the degree is the long term goal......football and baseball is their means to get there....so yes,5 years from now it will matter

Yeah how many of the above mentioned stick with it? And anyone can go to college now. You will just have to work a number of yrs to pay for it. And you are right about not making it too the pro's. Which I think was my point. Football has it's entertainment value. But that is about it.

Only time will tell how many finish....some do....some don't.....same as kids who don't play ball....my point is it's another means to get there

That's why it is always better to encourage all the kids to get a degree. If you have taken note to any pro basketball or football player's speaking on the sports channels you will see that they didn't spend much time on education.

The importance would be that CHILDREN have been known for eternity to enjoy fun, relationships with peers and competitive sports. Education is important!! The children are being forced to lose their childhoods to demanding educational requirements, which means we are going to be surrounded by intelligent robots with no personality, morals or values other than blank individuals competing for the almighty dollar...Peace out!

Intelligent robots? If that were true our scores would be better. Put the ball down and pick up a book.
