Just wondering, with all of the new laws about curtailing smoking sections in restaurants, how does this Horsehead Industry compare on the pollution index?

I live close to HorseHead. Not only does it produce smoke pollution, but also noise pollution. The machines can be heard running, grinding and whining all night long. And when the conditions are just right, the smoke produced from its kiln will blanket half of the downtown district. To make it worse, the middle school and high school are very close to the plant. The local children have to hear the noise and breathe the smoke 8-10 hours a day. I'm sure there is some E.P.A law against the plant running the way it does.
So that

I also live close to horsehead I can hear them running but I am sorry the smoke that you see isn't them, why don't you drive around or better yet go sit on the hill and watch Rockwood, most of it is from burning brush or if Rockwood Fire Dept. has a fire in the area then the smoke settles in the area, I think that alot of things that are going on are getting blamed on horse head and it isn't even them most of the time. Please look around and see what is going on first, that is what I did.

I don't understand why the people of Roane County want to complain about not being able to find a job but at the same time complain about a company that is producing jobs for people. WAKE UP, Pollution is everywhere. Stop bitching! That is why so many people are on welfare because people like My Thoughts complains to much & business owners get tired of paying fines! Think about this My Thoughts, how close do you live to Oak Ridge - POLLUTION?

I happen to work at horsehead and I will honesty say that the do pollute a lot more than allowed by EPA standards. however it my sound bad that we are breathing smoke. well, its not smoke its actually zinc and lead and a gas forum and they have no intentions on fixing a d@mn thing about it. yes i work there but i am know happier with them then you are. a job is a job and i need it bad. I would like to see them get some work done to improve their emisions but lets face the truth, its never going to happen, with the new plant manager they will spend 10k picking up trash outside other than fixing the leaking holes wear the dust is comming from. I am very upset with it.
Just saying

They're inspected by the federal epa, state water air and solid waste and osha almost continually. They've been sued by community and left leaning environmental organizations. Sound studies have been done, Air quality studies have been done, after all of this no one has proven them to be at fault for anything. If you don't want jobs here say it. If you don't want the job you have quit, someone else will take it.

Im not sure to whom you are sbr. hopefully someone down there in the office. Me as a Roane co citizen (and don't get me wrong i love and value my job) would like to see improvements as i know what is leaking out in the air for everyone to breath. perhaps I could bring some cameras?

If you know of an infraction and continue to participate in the plant operation perpetuating this infraction and the implied endangerment of the community while enriching yourself by collecting a salary or wage, are you not guilty also?
