I would like to learn more about addiction. Ex. How did your addiction begin? What are the drugs or combos? What does it feel like when you do them? Triggers? What do withdrawls feel like? Plz educate if you have walked there. On this forum DO NOT JUDGE PEOPLE!!!!! If you don't want to read or know stay off here!

I have lost numerous friends to drugs, that were good people with goals in life. The drugs seem to have a evil hold on them that goes beyond their love for their family or life.

I would say my problems started with drinking beer at home as a kid.

For what its worth I will tell you that my addiction started later in life. I'm in my mid 50's and gor hurt in my business. I was prescribed hydrocodone 10. Eventually I would go thru my medicine and before it was due for refill I would have to buy some.

I am a parent to a child that is addicted to pills, my child is 21yrs old. It all started about 4 yrs ago with her having back aches, I took her to the dr then we had insurance, I let the dr know we want non narotics pain relievers, that was all good until she turned 18 and didn't need me anymore to take her to the drs. I am now to the point she cannot come back home until she enters a rehab center and gets clean, but how does that happen with no insurance? and how do I put my daughter on the street? not knowing if she is going to be safe. Not sure what to do, any advice would help. Thank you! I don't need any smart ass comments either.

Putting your daughter out for her problem will not help her, she will completley turn to the streets, and as time goes it will get worse. I am 29 and my mother is a needle freak she started out using pain pills also from a accident, and we all turned our back on her and she felt alone like noone cared , we have tried to get her in rehab , but she always checks out early and goes back at it again , she now has hepitits from the drugs n alchole , they will not change until they are ready. The best thing i can say is be there for her and become her friend do positive stuff with her, my mother still is on the drugs , so i continue to pray thats all we can do the rest is up to her to change... Good luck and god bless u , i know your pain...

I have numerous friends and family who are addicts. Where do you draw the line between helping and enabling the addiction, I'm confused. To the addicts why don't you want help? Please talk to us,we don't know how to help.

I cant speak for everyone cause ive never been on real hard drugs before , but i think drugs takes people to a care free place, they still love but i think they just dont know how to show it, i know when id smoke weed i was carefree until a bad situtation touuched down and then its hard to handle and makes you want drugs even more so that way u dont feel the pain az bad.

that is one reason that people on marijuana start taking ddrugs see they smoke their marijuana just to get high most of the time they dont have a care in the world and they moke the marijuana just for fun then they get into a crisis and then their already accustomed to the marijuana so they might start smoking cigarettes or poping pills or drinking alcohol and then they might start taking cocaine or smoking that crack or snording that meth why the first thing you know their hooked you see.

I have never done anything besides marijuana, so cant say that it leads to other drugs at all...it depends on the person and it dont lead to smokin cigs cause i smokes cigs way before io started smokin weed, i just think god that im threw with weed i put it down without any problem without rehab also, just depends on who u are and what u want out of life.

I was always told by my mom if you ever do drugs like cocaine or hash or such you would be addicted even if you tried it. That alone was enough to always keep me from trying any of it because I was scared. I tried pot because I seen many family members doing it and they didn't seem to die. So I assume its what's around you as a kid.

my addiction started as a way to cope with daily beatings from my then boyfriend. he would beat me up and then feel bad and give me handful of pain meds to make it better. it slowly began from there. one would help the pain but two would make my situation easier to deal with. of course it didnt take long before i was completely dependant. anyone that knows about this knows how bad the physical addiction is with pills. when every part of your body is hurting and every muscle is having spasms. plus the throwing up and diharia. (i know i spelled that wrong) its really hard not to use. plus your dealing with the mental part which for me was a lot worse. i will tell you that my family never turned there backs on me. they didnt give me money but i always had somewhere to go and food and i think that was important. when your in your addiction you feel alone anyway so if your family turns their backs then you feel like why get better cause no one cares anyway. it took me 8 yrs to get better and my family was always there but i had to be ready until i was it useless for anyone to try to preach to me. the best thing you can do is let them know when they are ready that you are there for them and until then just be a positive influeance. dont beat them to death with guilt cause if they was like me the guilt probably keep me in my addiction longer. good luck. i dont if i helped any but i will pray for you
