can someone please tell me why people can setup and sell produce on city property, but when someone tries to have a yard sale when noone else is using the lot, that one police officer has a problem with it and wants to be an ass? there is no law against selling on city property, just an ordinance which is stupid considering that selling is what the lot was cleared off for. I mean is the "good ole boy" clique really that greedy that if they're not making any money, no one else can either? well who ever you are Mr police man that should have better things to do besides harass people about a yard sale, were you pissed when we moved twenty feet over to private property were you couldn't do anything besides drive by a million times wasting tax payer money running out gas?

Produce can be sold legally on any roadside property in Tn. as long as the property owner gives his permission and it is not a traffic hazard. Yard sales are not afforded that right.

part of my point is that it was an empty parking lot that caused no traffic hazard cleared off for selling (whether it be produce or house hold junk) an is owned by the city. last I checked I don't believe one individual can own a city. even a couple of city officials thought it was ridiculous

Citizen lets look at the whole picture first Rockwood has a lot of full time yard sales which by law says you need a business license, you must also have a sales and use tax number so you can collect and pay sales tax on the items you sell. I for one am getting tired of having to pay my share of taxes on my business why a whole bunch of people setup shop every weekend along Gateway ave and try to sell what they picked up from other people all week long if the City of Rockwood was smart they would go further and enforce the law then they could collect their share of the revenue and it would help the budget problem they are having. I for one commend the "ass of a police officer" for doing his job if we could get others in the city to do their job we would be better off! So don't be bad mouthin the cop for doing his job it might get worse if the state starts checkin

There all just junk nobody want's anyway. Not sure if people will ever get the point that to sell something, you need something somebody actually wants. Same with 90% of the flea market.

You guys are absolutely right. I pay my sales taxes and also my business license and insurance. How a CHURCH can have a block long yard sale almost every day is beyond me. Where do they get this stuff? From Goodwill dumpsters and Clothes Closet rejects I guess.

I get your point, my father is a business owner an pays taxes an so do i every week. I do not yard dale every weekend, just once every two years or so to get rid of things that we no longer use, and what doesn't sale is donated or have away. and the main reason I called him an ass is because he drove by countless times before saying something, then when we moved to private property continued to drive by.yes i would like for him to do his job an quit harassing people who aren't doing anything and go after the real criminals like thieves and drug dealers.as for the budget problem if they would quit over paying people who don't do their jobs that would solve it.
oh and to lol, is it considered junk when its brand new with tags?

How do you think it looks to a prospective business owner looking for a new city to expand his business and move in our area. If i were looking to expand and put a plant up and employee people, it sure wouldnt be here. Just look how junked up this town has become. Just keep junking it up with these yard sales and such and this town will never improve.

The church that has the yard sale all the time needs to be aware that even though they are non-profit they cannot have as many yard sales as they want. State law says that a nonprofit can have 3 yard sales a year, any more than that and they must acquire a tax number and charge sales tax.

First you need someone in this town to enforce the law and I don't think they will cause they are afraid they will go to hell if the make the church do right
