How are the prices? I am sure it won't last because no one supports anything new unless it is Mexican.

Prices are less than Kyoto, quality is superior
Introduce yourself to the owner Santos when you go, a true restaurant professional
Plus, if you go to valpack.com , you can print a coupon for even better pricing

Old Timers has reopened under new management and is called"The Fatted Calf." owner by the Zanata folks. They've cleaned up the place, new wood floor, paintr, new upholstery on the seats and booths, and newe menu of cours. Prices are much higher than when Donna owned it. No more home fries for breakfast, just hash browns.$10 for meat loaf when Donna's was $7.00.All the breakfast prices are much higher. I'll be surprised if it lasts.

Tried Sushi Saikou and really enjoyed it. We tasted several different things and all were good. appetizers, miso soup, sushi rolls & combination of beef chicken shrimp & vegetables tasted very similar to hibachi. Prices are typical for sushi. Very nice owner, named Santos.

I had been saying for a couple of years that Rockwall needed to “catch up” with other areas of Dallas regarding quality sushi offerings. Let’s be honest, Kyoto and Edohana are the Americanized McDonalds version of Sushi and Japanese Cuisine, put up against anybody in the DFW area they fail in comparison.I have to also admit, I was a little hesitant due to the strip mall location. When you walk in, you are immediately shocked because it is nothing like you could ever had expected from the outside. You are transported to a swanky upscale breath of fresh air, which is inviting, unique and contemporary. The atmosphere and ambiance is the first thing you experience that instantly sets it apart from the others, which at this point in time, can’t even be classified as completion for Sushi Saikou. They aren’t even in the same league. The modern feel of the dining area also provides you with a great view of the whole kitchen and sushi bar providing you with a unique dining experience or dining “theater”. Keeping a solid mind, I was impressed with the atmosphere, but remained focused on the fact that a restaurant that doesn’t have good food, who cares what the atmosphere is. So the menu comes, and I start thumbing through the pages. Here is the second time you are shocked and impressed. From Starters to Sushi to Noodles to Traditional Japanese Cuisine, to a foodie like me, this menu stands out as authentic and different from anything else in Rockwall, much less other Japanese places in the DFW. It took me 15 minutes to order simply because I couldn’t decide on what I wanted because I wanted about 8 different things. Almost every sushi place out there does some form of other Japanese fare, but that doesn’t mean it’s authentic and it doesn’t mean it’s good. This menu was awesome and authentic! Dim Sum (I know, not Japanese), Sushi, Udon Noodle dishes, Soba Noodle dishes, Yakitori, and much much more! Those of you who are foodies in the DFW area know just how hard and rare it truly is to find real Soba and real Udon noodles, much less good ones. So we finally ordered, and our server was really friendly and really attentive. I also must say that the prices were better than both of the other places in town for sure. We were brewing with anticipation, but still mindful that the food could still be really bad. Our server shows up to our table with a barrage of plates, we looked surprised, and he explained what they were and that they were on the house! Soup, Sushi, 2 Noodle dishes, Steak and Chicken. We were impressed and immediately dug in. Everything one after the other was increasingly fantastic and indulgent, hitting all the important culinary senses - Sight, Smell, Taste, Texture, and a Complexity of Flavors. Not only is that great customer service, but it is a great way to get some repeat customers who will be loyal because of such treats. Everything they brought us was top notch! It was about $30.00 worth of food too. Our server, you could tell was very proud and passionate about the product they were serving, likewise was the chef. You could tell they took their craft serious and the quality and taste was a matter of pride and passion to them. You could tell it by the food. So they proceed to bring out the rest of our food - 4 Sushi rolls and some Chicken Yakitori skewers. Of course they were all exceptionally tasty and succulent. The number one thing that jumps out at you is the quality of ingredients that are being used. When you can get just the simple stuff perfect by using quality techniques and ingredients for the simple stuff, everything thing else is just that much better. From the quality of ingredients, to the layered complexity of flavors, to the impressive menu and the ambiance, not to mention the best prices in town for such cuisine, they just earned themselves weekly loyal patrons out of the two of us, and when I left I vowed to make sure to get the word out about Sushi Saikou. Spicy Tuna 10/10!!

They have plans to open another at The Harbor. I am sure the prices will be a lot higher though to justify the rent.
