Now that Russo has resigned his council position, the city council will appoint a replacement to fill his unexpired term. Who or what should they consider when making this decision? Should they look for someone with some experience in city government - such as a member of one of the various boards and commissions? A previous council member? A local civic or business leader?

They need to consider all applicants .
Serving on a board or a commission is something that should be considered but the candidate does not have to have been on one. Rockwall is full of qualified candidates. They just need to ignore names Michelle Smith brings up.

Who cares who runs for an office. They all lie and cheat the system. It's their career, not anything else. Although, if I vote, it's always republican if that makes any sense. I despise politics. It's like an all girls club of who said she said drama.

It is my understanding that this place will be on the ballot in the next City election (May 2013)(swearing in late May-early June) instead of May 2014.

My ideal candidate would be a knowledgable individual who would add something of value to the council for the next 9 or 10 months AND who would promise NOT to run in next May's election. This would truly level the playing field and ensure a fair and contested election in May 2013. If you've watched the races, you know it's not too often an incumbent draws an opponent - and the appointed person would be an incumbent.

A former council member? I can think of two or three I could back, but there are others that make me say, "Thank goodness for term limits!"

Seriously, he "gets" it, and would provide needed financial guidance with "Our" money!

He is part of the problem, not the answer. No way!

Why don't we get his wife and daughter too and then we can have the whole family in office. He "gets" it? Of course he does! He lives of the government teat. His company is one of the expense items in the government budget they're supposedly so against! Yes he gets it - your tax money every month!!

Well this IS news. Which government budget - city/county or both, and what services does his company get paid for.

Thanks, Ummm. It's reassuring that "we're" buying something that is made here in the US and not offshore. I would hate to see a conflict of interest should there be an opportunity to bid/sell his product to local governments.

He's a strong voice and perhaps that (and his son) is enough influence from one family.

sure, send more folks like Michelle Smith to the council instead of qualified people like John White
Abe Lincoln said it best, "people get the government they deserve"

Dear TT,
If there were only two choices in the world - Smith or White, of course I'd go with White. But aren't we lucky to live in a town where there are many more capable and willing people.

You seem to have strong convictions. Have you turned your own name in? Serving would be an eye-opening experience.

did it float, or did it sink?
Did you name either Sasha or Meleeah?

Did you say you were dropping them off at the "pool"?

I hear Jim Pruitt put in to be considered. I think the rest should drop out. Can't think of a better person to step in. I doubt anyone has a chance against mr Pruitt. Even Scott turner couldn't beat him in Rockwall.

It would take some major humbling to go from wanting to be a state rep to a council member.

Positioning for what? Jim wants to be an elected official that bad? He should wait to run against Scott in 2 years or run for County Judge or run for County Commissioner.
