At the meeting the Chief of Police admitted that he did not have all the facts. He admitted that had he known what was going on, he would have made a different decision. He admitted that once he ordered the police to leave the situation, he had no plan as to how to capture the suspect. I am extremely disappointed, but at least he had the courage to meet with the people he wronged.

So all you blow hards want to still talk about how great the RPD officers on scene are? Nearly every one of you blasted the upper echelon and anyone on this board who supported them, while singing the praises of the officers on scene. The truth comes out and all you P's go silent. Too bad you all don't have the balls or integrity to come on here and admit when you're wrong. Sorry!!!

I am not sure how this relates to my comment. Are you saying I am wrong for agreeing with the chief that he made the wrong decision? What do you have against the officers? It was the LT at the scene in communication with the chief, not the officers. What wrong should I be admitting here?

so what we are saying here is that the Lt. is at fault for not relaying the correct information to the Chief? Is there going to be any internal corrections made here or is the Chief just using this as an excuse. "I didn't know" sounds like government at its best. It's always the guys on the bottom that take the heat anyway

The chief indicated that steps will be added to ensure better communication. He said that he will initiate a phone call to the scene instead of waiting for an update. I am not sure how this will help. Unless the chief was told something other than the facts, I don't see how he could have come to the wrong conclusion. The chief said at the meeting that he was more concerned with the safety of his officers then the safety of the residents because he felt violence would be directed at the officers. This thought shows me that the chief new this guy was dangerous, but felt it would be better to leave him in our neighborhood.

Just another excuse. The only discipline will be handed out to line level.

My goodness, people ... Get a life and move on already. He admitted he made a mistake, he apologized and said that corrections will be made. What more do you want ??? You all really need to find something more productive to do with your time ...

As a chief, you don't get the luxury of making mistakes like this.

I agree Sue. STFU and get a life. It was already determined it wasn't even HIS mistake. Even if it was, you what him fired? I hope you or your PO husband never make a mistake. What a holier than thou piece of you know what.

You are entitled to your opinion, however I disagree. If my husband or I were chief and made that call, I would hope someone would have us reprimanded or at least sent to have more training in these types of situations.

Sue,
Don't let these idiots on here get to you. They're mad when no one posts updates and then mad again when you post and say you should move on. They can't spell and make absolutely no sense. I think they just post offensive comments to get a rise out of others. Losers.
Many people were concerned with what happened that night. Thank you for the update.

Thank you for your kind words. I just want this city to be a wonderful safe place to live and I don't feel confident in the decision making abilities of the command staff. I just want to ask those who agree with the chief's decision, if this was your neighbor, would you have felt safe going to bed when you knew an armed felon was next door?

You guys are beating a dead horse , keep bringing up negative press . Rockwall does not like negative issues , it will effect the economy and sales of homes . Our police department , including the leadership is excellent . The chief has explained some things he will do different. Move on please !

As I have said before and will say again, GET A LIFE !!! Move on already! It's over. They moved out of our neighborhood, the chief apologized ... Let it go. There have GOT to be more important things going on in your lives (SUE) than to be rehashing this over and over. People make mistakes and learn from them, that is how life and every profession works. Contrary to what Sue believes, no one is perfect and immune to making mistakes, not even her and her precious husband if they were in charge. It's time to find something else to whine about in the bubble, people.

Here here! I don't know how she has time to post with all the glass windows she has to shine in her house. I imagine her husband has been the officer of the year at DART.

I'm also a resident and I'm embarrassed about the way some of my neighbors have expressed themselves . Just so all will know there are two residents in our neighborhood that are causing all of this outrage . I am thankful for the police department . I appreciate the chief meeting with our neighborhood and explaining what could have been done differently and explaining the changes that will be implemented in the future. Has anyone read the Herald Banner article on what happened? I was at home night and that's exactly what happened . The good thing is that everyone I talk to in the neighborhood other than those two are ready to go on with their lives.

More great decision making:Two squad cars on the street without radios, but the assistant chief gets a new car? Numerous patrol vehicles with plugs in tires as well as other issues. Chrysler 300 bill would pay for proper upkeep of the patrol vehicles.
It's my understanding that the assistant chief is universally disliked by almost every officer.

Oh really? Got to love quotes that start with "It's my understanding..." You know instantly it's BS!
