Safeway to Plow $100M Into MontCo Store Makeovers

Safeway is going to spend some serious bucks renovating its stores in Montgomery County .

How about Safeway reducing the cost of their groceries by about $100M? A shopping cart of the exact same groceries in the DC metro area costs more than anywhere else in the USA except NYC and Honolulu (where everything has to be delivered by ship). No wonder the remodeling budget is so generous.

Didn't they just re-do them recently with the dark lighting so that you can't see the high prices?!?!
MESSAGE TO SAFEWAY: DONT REMODEL- LOWER YOUR FRICKIN HIGH PRICES ! I for one will not shop there anymore if you don't. In these economic times we don't want decor, we want SAVINGS!!!! Your salad bar price is higher than most, your Morningstar Farms products are so high, even at your "New Lower Pricing" and basically EVERYTHING in the store can be had elsewhere for less! I'm going back to shopping at Bloom.

I agree with the comment about the dim lighting. I hate the new lighting in the Silver Spring store. I feel like I need wear a miner's helmet with a light on the top so I can see what the heck I am buying. Dark lighting does not set the "mood" for shopping. The recently remodeled Giant store in Takoma Park got it right. They brightened up the store with excellent lighting rather than make the place seem like a tomb.
