Politics does make strange bedfellows, doesn't it?

Imagine that -- Dean Skelos, Hiram Monserrate, Pedro Espada, and Tom Golisano secretly plotting the overthrow of the NYS Senate.

I wonder what folks in other parts of this country, or dare we say, the world, think about this circus act?

Watch out, Kim Il Jung. Dean Skelos and his new found compatriots may be secretly plotting a coup in North Korea next.

Ahhh, Albany. The best dysfunctional government a billionaire's money could buy!

A famous person once said " you can not make the poor rich by making the rich poor " . That is exactly what the Citizen Action group is trying to do with their agenda ,while pretending to represent the middle class ! Go Golisano !!!!

"You bought our democracy! How dare you do that? Go back to Florida and screw up their state!" she shouted. "You are a disgusting human being!"

IS this woman kidding? He 'moved' to FL to AVOID the excessive NYS taxes that go up and up on EVERYTHING. The only thing we are not taxed on YET is the air we breathe.

- Sales tax, when coupled with county sales tax, one of the higest in the country
- Highest gas tax in the country and still the roads are in dis-repair
- Highest cell phone tax in the country (26%) which includes a tax that goes to the MTA if you live in an MTA zone. What??!!? a tax on our cell phone for the MTA. Yes look at your bill.
- property, need I even go into that
- school tax, you gota pay for the over-paid teachers somehow
- liquor/beer/wine tax...Gota tax the drink we need to get over the taxes we pay
- cigarette tax...while I don't smoke it is shocking how high that tax is
- Tax on home heating oil in various counties and now in nassau. I thought you were not supposed to be able to tax 'necessities'? Or is heating your home now a luxury?
- utility taxes, cable/phone taxes...taxes that make little to no sense and we have no choice but to pay them
- one of the higest income taxes in the country
- New fees, surchages (aka taxes) on DMV registration, the bottle deposit (aka tax), surcharges on fines/tickets.

I am sure the list could go on and on...and with ALL of these taxes what do we have to show for our state? a public pension system so lucrative it makes robbing a bank seem like it would yield less return. Overpaid public employess who think they have a God given right to their exessive compensation packages/retirement packages and have zero respect fot the taxpayers that fund it. Roads/bridges in disrepair with no new contstruction to improve anything. Roadways with trash and garbage as far as they eye can see....and when you are all said and done, they claim they still need more money so raise another tax/fee/surcharge all at the same time illegal aliens get a free ride.

yes, NYS, quite a system.

How come the 2 Joes didn't complain when Golisano's & Soros' money helped the socialists gain power in London & Paris? Oops, I meant NYC & DC.

"That's when Golisano, the billionaire vagabond of New York politics who helped the Democrats take the Senate last fall, decided to help the Republicans take it back."

Now this is certainly interesting.

I do not recall Newsday EVER reporting that a 'billionaire vagabond of New York politics' was responsible for turning the legislature over to the Democrats.

I'm not sure if this represents a failure of Newsday's journalistic capabilities, or the lack of such reporting was by design.

What's forgotten is that Gollisano is part and parcel of the real estate interests that rule NY and have controlled Albany. Important legislation to improve tenant rights was coming up for a vote. He got there flush with his money just in time to stop it.

The only 'change' that will work here, is if we, the people, change all of it...that means term limits, folks. A lot of our illustrious Legislature seem to be working for themselves, not the people of NY, or they are doing nothing at all...Lets get Michael Bloomburg on the Gov. ticket, elect him, and watch him clean house... Meanwhile, the leadership in the Assembly & Senate should resign and make room for some new folks.

Unlike those millionaires and billionaires that fund those so called "think tanks" that push the right wing free-market religion that was showed to not work so well!

You know those folks like Richard Mellon Scaife or the Koch family. And they have been funding the right a lot longer than Soros has been funding the left. So hopefully you will be upset with them too.

But she and her Citizen Action/Progressive Coalition/Working Families Party comrades had plenty of positive things to say when they helped Golisano buy the Senate for the Democrats in November. Why so much upset when Golisano decides to spend a little more to get what he really wanted?

Right, It's all about Golisano, not the two scumbag Democrats who crossed party Lines....

Could the Republicans have found ANYONE more sleazy than these clowns?

This is the kind of thing that PROVES the stereotype that Republicans will do anything for power.

When will people realize that it doesn't matter which party a politician claims to be loyal to, CORRUPTION and LIES are what power the government. It's as sad and ugly as Rome just before it's demise.

SO wait, you want Bloomberg, who used his power as Emperor of NY City to END term limits, to go to Albany and Impose term limits?

This is why we're in the position we're in because MORONS do the majority of voting in NY.
