This is such a tragedy. A young life snuffed out, because Hempstead is a war zone and yet it's not treated that way. How many more kids have to get stabbed and die before the community revolts? The majority of people in Hempstead are decent and hard-working, and somehow - I don't know how - they have to take back their community. But first...we probably have to wait for Rev. Al to come out and scream a little. Any bets on how many hours before he shows up?

Even though that would be the truth, It would not be the politically correct thing to say in this time and age, only if it is in their favor! BLAH!

Screw this newspaper and everyone that works for it. Hopefully the building just implodes with everyone in it.

Being Hempstead, I give you 2 guesses why Al will never come out for this. Had the victim been black and the perps un-mentioned, well.....

This is so tragic. That poor boy and his family. I'm sick of the violence. May God rest his soul. May the law put these thugs away for life. Find them fast.

This is every mother's worst nightmare. Why do things like this happen? My heart breaks for this family. I can not imagine the pain they are experiencing. I pray for them.

Clay was my neighbor for about 5 minutes before he walked out on his family. I said hi to him one day and he just looked at me and kept going. A stiff if there ever was one. Don't expect the truth out of that mug.

Dear Dr.Clay:With all due respect, you do not "have the situation under control."I've seen the campus at Hempstead High School most recently.Security is extremely loose.Security officials do not take their jobs seriously. They befriend the students, rather than supervise them. The campus is basically an open one.Students are permitted to remain outdoors unsupervised, when not in class.Dr.Clay,with all due respect,Hempstead High School is not a sanctuary for learning. It is an accident waiting to happen. For a student to be robbed and killed within the confines of a school is unacceptable. The Principal,Mr.Strong, should be immediately replaced. It appears that the adults are not in charge. The students seem to have free rein.Cutting is rampant.Students freely go back and forth to the Roosevelt field mall undetected. The guard at the open gate does what he pleases.Dr.Clay,for the sake of the community,do your job. This tragic event could have easily been avoided. You're obviously unaware of what's going on at the High School.Either become cognizant of the situation,or allow someone who can!!!!!!!!!!As for the parents of the dead student,my heart goes out to you,and you should seriously contemplate a "wrongful death"civil lawsuit against the School Board,Supt.Clay, and Principal Strong. It won't bring back your son,but it will prevent future tragedies. This you can be sure of.

i am so sad to hear about this. I use to work for the district. It is so sad to hear all of these bads things that are happening to the students of Hempstead Shool District. I remember a few years ago a boy was stabbed and died with the principal of Hempstead High School out side. That incident was believed to have been gang induction day.
May god bless this family. My prayers go out to you.

Just one generation ago this story would have shocked us. I'm 45 and when I was a kid this kind of thing was very rare. What the heck has happened? This stuff is commonplace now. What does it say about our society?

condolences goes out to the kids family..no one should go through this especially if their child just started to live a life..too much ignorance and stupidity is going on with in the black and hispanic communities..a child is now dead thanks to some idiot child or adult decides to take a young mans life for a couple of dollars and a cellphone..its time to wake up people and take back what is yours...life..and can people stop with the damn "wheres al sharpton at" bulls-h-it..he doesnt speak for all blacks.. majority of us blacks can speak for ourselves but some of you people might not even like that ..but what we need (which will be hard thanks to governemt cut backs)is more programs for young kids..career programs..educational programs so these kids can do what their parents couldnt ..get out..i have kids of my own and i feel that family pain because it can be anyone of ours..instead of looking up to a drug dealer and some of these rappers that you may think are killers..instead..look up to a better future..hopefully they can catch whoever did this before it happens again

What a shame! These poor kids. Schools with no heat while the board members fight like animals at their "meetings" over petty BS. Vacations, car payments, homeimprovements all on the dime of Hempstead schools. These kids haven't a chance and these school "leaders" and parents are to blame. Clay is an ignorant liar who is more concerned with himself than the well being of these young minds. Sympathies to the family and friends of this boy.

Another hispanic student was killed in the vicinity of the high school about 1 or 2 years ago. Killed for no given reason. No one was charged. He's already been forgotten.

Prayers to the victim and his family. His father was on TV and is a destroyed man.

What the hell is going on in Hempstead? I'm going to start driving faster when going through.
