Think carefully about fees: Questions of fairness arise

Full story: The Reporter

Between the sluggish economy and the state's raid on municipal treasuries, is understandable that the city of Vacaville would be looking for new ways to balance its own budget.

"Think carefully about fees"

Gees! You certainly bounce around a lot regarding fees and taxes! Focus!

Right now, an increase in fees and taxes will only hurt what is already bad. Dang Democrats! One track mind, what little exist!

VV will raise fees. Count on it.

They need the money to pay for the unfunded liabilities they have agreed to pay like the 3% at 50 pensioneers.

It's not about you, it's all about them.

Nice save face editorial. No strong position here, just a be careful message. Dare not disturb COV with a strong position against fee hikes.

The city of Sacramento has come up with a great way to raise revenue. Saw it in action this morning on the Channel 3 news.

Place a couple motorcycle officers at strategic areas close to a crosswalk and use a 3rd officer, dressed in civilian cloths, to cross back and forth as a decoy.

If a car refuses to yield to the pedistrian decoy, one of the motorcycle cops pulls the offending driver and issues a citation.

This would be a win/win situation in that it provides more revenue for the city and pedistrians trying to cross the street might get a safe brake from inpatient motorists.

OH MY GOSH... what a brilliant idea! Sure! It could be done all over town and rake in tons of tickets.

As for the City Council raising fees for city services: They will do it and then few organizations will want to use city facilities.

Hey, what goes on at the Three Oaks Community Center? The city could probably close it except for swimming.

More volunteers could take over paid positions, such as the person who manages the Performing Arts Theatre. He appears to hate his job, anyway... or at least the last time I saw him, a year ago, slouched in the lobby looking bored and angry.

I wonder if the city council could avoid raising facility fees if they would enter into a new agreement with the school district over shared facilities. Everyone could share in the pain, but it would likely open up more facility space for the public.

What did they tell you when you asked them about it? Stop wondering and find out.

I think the city did share with the schools until recently. Now the School Trustees have to pay to use the council chambers at City Hall. I read it in the newspaper just a few weeks ago. Was it just talk, or did they enact it?

I think the school district is still using the city council chambers. Maybe they have to pay now.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Scorpio

If you've been surrounded by people during the past few days you welcome the chance to have some time to yourself today. It's a wonderful excuse to do something really indulgent in private, such as scoff a whole box of chocolates while watching a favourite film on TV. But make sure you destroy all the evidence before everyone else comes home!
