How are people on welfare suppose to get ahead if they make more than the required income they will be taken off the program. So, many work very little or not at all. This is how it should be done: Make them work for every dollar they receive- cleaning parks, roads, schools, ect. Anything that will give save the state the money they otherwise would have to pay someone to do. If someone is disabled, have them prove that they can't work and keep track of their situation. If not, eliminate it completely so people get off their butts and make a difference in their lives and community.

OK, if you ever need welfare I hope you're prepared to clean parks and do road work. I'm sure you'll have a lot of time to look for a job when 8 hours of your day are spent doing community service.

Face it, the great majority abuse the system. Make them work for the money they get. Putting people to work will make them not want it and actually try looking for a job. Also, make them provide proof that they are looking and applying for a job. There is billions that are wasted in this system that could otherwise go to health facilities or schools.

Agreed...

Even in the poorest of counties I've traveled people will do what needed to survive - like walk 5 miles for fire wood or water, whatever.

In my opinion welfare people should do SOMETHING in return for their FREE LUNCH. I don't care if it's road side clean up or painting park playground equipment, just something.

NOTHING EXCEPT A SECOND CHANCE SHOULD BE FREE.

i agree let them work for it via community service and with organisations that need volunteers. they wont need time to look for a different job. they will have one!! they can keep their welfare which should be taxed so that it comes from the money they are earning and not ours. if they want a better and real paying job with benefits they can look in their free time just as i would do if i wasnt happy with mine.

I think making people do a little community service work in order to receive there welfare money is an excellent idea. If I needed welfare, I would have no problem cleaning parks or doing road work for my money to feed my family. Make them take a drug test also!!! We could save soooo much money if we could get rid of the leeches on the system.
Who do I call to voice my opinion about this idea (not that it would do ANY good) my local congressman?

you people make me sick! You all act like someone likes being on welfare. Did anyone ever think that those on it may be recieving assistance because they were layed off from work and their unemployment has run out. Agreed some people will not work but I do not think it is because they dont want to. It is because they can not find a job that they would make enough to pay for childcare, food and utilities because the so called bennies if they are available are so high their net would not be enough to support their family. And before anyone replies that I am on welfare let me inform you that I am not but have been in the past. I had twin babies and went to college to provide a life for me and my babies. I now gross 75,000/ yr. A long way from the pissy 262 dollars a month I received from the state of kentucky.

I don't have a problem with people that need welfare, it is there for a reason and I think it could be a great system. Thats not the problem, The problem is the leeches that do nothing and expect EVERYONE else to pay for them and there family. If I fell on hard times, I would accept welfare to support my family. Of course you do what you need to do. My issue is people that think the government is just handing the money out and live that way for as long as possible. Expecially when they are able bodies that could contribute to our society. Thats what makes me sick....

Welfare is here for a reason, but all too more times, it IS abused. Eons ago, my husband left me and our three little kids for a lover I will call "Cocaine". Welfare kept me from losing my apt. and having to take an abuser back into the home.I lived in a neighborhood where foodstamps were sold for meth. These recipients had children who were knocking at my door sometimes at 10 at nite looking for something to eat or a coat.I gave it to them. Yes, this welfare recipient! I believe a drug test should come before a check. And periodic checks should continue. But for some moms and dads out there in need of help, who is to shun them like trash? Walk a mile people, walk a mile...

I completely agree,I think welfare is ok to be used TEMPORARILY! I am fortunate enough to say that I have never had to use it, but I had two jobs 3 months ago. I quit one to go back to school and get a better job instead of having to work two, and then I was laid off from the job I kept. Now you would think, I would be able to get unemployment right? Well no, because I'm going to school they said that that doesn't leave me enough time to look for a job and denied my claim. Now I'm struggling with bills and school costs while other people--who I know for fact continuously get pregnant to receive more welfare!--get the benefits that MY tax dollars have paid along with every other hard working citizen of this country! That is was makes me mad, those people on welfare should be monitored or like the other person said, required to do community service at least in order to receive it. Its on them if they want to get a better job or not, but I know I would look while receiving it because we all know 100-400/wk just doesn't cut it.

Welfare is a system that will always be abused. Limit the time from 3 years to 1 year and have a cooling off period for 4 years, meaning that you cannot go back on for 4 years. If someone is on welfare then it should slowly be added back onto your taxes once you are on your feet so you can repay it. As for those who say that they would accept welfare if their job didn't pay enough...what ever happened to getting a second job or a third one to make ends meet. My Mom worked three jobs when she had to, just to be proud enough to say she wasn't on welfare...Thanks for the life lessons Mom...I love you!

Those getting 2nd and 3rd jobs are more apt to have their kids not in school raised by the daycare system or by grandparents who just feel obligated. My bigger gripe is with alot of people on SSI. Parents getting funds for kids with ADD. Adults getting it because they are alcoholics. I know a guy who has it because he was diagnosed as bipolar. If that were the case...maybe, but he is a heroine junkie.People like him make it difficult for those who really need it to get it.Single parents by no real choice of their own don't just wake up one day and say, "When I have a family, I'm gonna get me some foodstamps and government cheese!". Stuff happens. And having these single parents raising their children go pick up garbage along side the freeway? Why not give them a scarlet letter...geez.I was embarassed using foodstamps eons ago, but its something I had to do. My kids didnt turn out white trash. They all graduated from high school. One owns a shop, one works for the sanitation dept., and the other, by golly, is a deputy sheriff.....

Many conservatives believe that welfare does not accomplish what it sets out to do; that, despite decades of massive anti-poverty spending, poverty is still with us, and perhaps even worse than before. In fact, some conservatives make even more ambitious claims: poverty was not a problem in America until President Johnson declared war on it. Some hearken back to a golden age that never was, claiming that charity was sufficient to neither history nor the statistics bear out these myths. Poverty was greater in the U.S. before Roosevelt established the New Deal. Since then, welfare has been an important tool in alleviating poverty, not just in America but abroad as well. Solve what little poverty there was.

You're missing the point. In this economy, with so many losing their jobs, it's hard enough to find one job, let alone three! The problem is wages haven't kept up with the cost of living. So now even the middle class are falling into the poverty level.

I'm sick of hard working people, who have worked all their lives, and their social security is being threatened because of all our money is going to the people who get pregnant, know they dont have to deal with the consequence of their choice, and go on welfare. I get people make mistakes, but thats they're faults. Let THEM deal with the consequences of THEIR actions. They do all this because they know the tax payer's dollars will pay for their drugs, and whatever else they buy, so they dont go out to try and find jobs. Dont tell me because of this economy there arent "jobs" out there. There are plenty of mcdonalds, or burger kings that will hire these people. There is plenty of work out there. If a 16 year old kid can find a job, then so can these lazy tax payer suckers. They are draining this economy and putting us on the brink of economic collapse. I'm very unsimpathetic against anything ungodly, and this is ungodly. Welfare breeds welfare. They have all these "babies daddies" they go sleep around, get pregnant, either get aborted, or have them to go on welfare and sit back and let the tax payers take care of their whole lives. Abortion, birth control, and welfare should be ripped out of this economy. Let people deal with THEIR choices. Let people take responsibility for THEIR OWN God given rights of human life, and existence. But no, instead they know Obama, that stupid asshole, will take care of the people, who go around, sleep around, get pregnant and go on welfare. I was watching TBN, and this african american lady got up and said there is a genocide against black people, for the "planned parenthood" agenda. GET OUT OF HERE. I wanted to scream at here, my patience is lost, and im letting go of my Christian feelings for ten minutes to write on this blog. If african americans are feeling that they are being put through a "genocide" well how about STOP GOING OUT AND SLEEPING AROUND, expecting that they will be taken care of for the money people have earned their entire lives, working very hard for the pension's and social security, and retirement. Why are hard working american citizens who have worked honest and hard work their whole lives, having to pay for the stupid decisions these ungodly, fornicated people are going out and doing everyday. Obama ruined this country and we will never heal. I hope your all ready for the rapture, because i cant wait to not see another day of this, especially the tribulation when things get worse then man has ever seen. Now, im gonna go calm down, and get my head back together. I really could not go 1 more day without saying anything on my mind. It was killing me. God bless you all

i'm doing a research thank you for your reponses they are all great.i also agree that welfare should be taken away because in my personal experience i've seen my step brothers mom havin kids every year becuase she don't want to work and when she gets the money from welfare she doesn't espend it in food she spends it clothing and parties. i don't here that she buys her kids any stuff.
