I was thinking of relocating to MI but I am told by people that the river stench can be quite unbearable.
What do you all think who live there?

On May 30 2013 at the Banana River and 528 causeway on the East side of Merritt Island, the stench was the worst smell I have ever experienced and I am a 65 year old Vietnam Vet.... Far beyond the normal stink of rotting seaweed, this is a horrific smell of rotting flesh and toxic algae.......If the whole Indian River Lagoon goes rotten again like it did last year, property values will plummet as the stinking smell of dead fish and marine life escalates. meanwhile the govt will never tell business to do anything about reducing fertilizer and pesticides until it is too late because our politicians are really "ladies of the night"

right on about the fertilizer. Run off from golf courses and all those pretty lawns have destroyed the lagoon.
In Stuart, the river was pristeen only a few years ago. Now on a good day you might see three feet. Same reason.
But about the politicians, you're wrong. They don't wait till nightfall. They whore all the time.

The smell at banana river and 528 is better today. A Veterans Day comment. 2014. It used to smell like a Rotting alligator in the sewer on the river road.

Most creative, painting a picture of the alligator ...
Most people would have just said sewer.
well the algae is dying off and taking the waters oxygen with it, so watch out for fish kill now.
